This 1986 Jaguar XJ6 Vanden Plas is a British luxury sedan that offers room for five in a cabin furnished with leather seats and woodgrain accents and equipped with cruise control, power windows, a radio with cassette player, and a digital trip computer. Exterior features include chrome-trimmed black bumpers, two-tone 15-inch wheels, newer Toyo tires, and dual fuel doors and exhaust outlets. Power is supplied by a 4.2-liter straight-6 engine and delivered to the road through a 3-speed automatic. Service performed within the last year and a half includes an oil change, an A/C recharge, and the installation of new brake pads and rotors. Finished in red over a tan interior, this Series III XJ sedan is available now and comes with a "Total Driving Experience" cassette, a cassette player cleaning kit, a service manual, a tool kit, maintenance and owner's handbooks, and a period brochure as well as a clean Carfax report and a clear California title in the seller's name.
The Pininfarina-designed exterior comes finished in red accented with brightwork trim in various areas. The front end features a "leaper" hood ornament, quad round headlights, a vertically vaned grille, and bumper-mounted amber turn signals. Orange side marker lights and Jaguar badges are located on the front fenders. Body-color moldings run from the front fenders across the front and rear doors. At the rear, there are dual fuel doors, red side marker lights, tri-color taillights, and a pair of exhaust finishers.
A set of two-tone 15-inch wheels with "growler" center caps and Toyo Extensa A/S tires replaced under previous ownership connect the car to the road.
Inside, this Vanden Plas is furnished with tan leather seats, a color-coordinated headliner and door panels, and brown carpeting. Walnut burl veneers accent the front and rear door panels, dashboard, center stack, T-handle shifter, and center console. According to the brochure, the Vanden Plas-specific front seats are hand-constructed and handsewn; the rear bench seat has a fold-down middle armrest with a storage compartment, magazine pockets in the back of the front seats, and adjustable overhead reading lights. Additional features include a black fabric dashboard pad, cruise control, power steering, power windows, a power sunroof, an AM/FM radio with a cassette player, a flip-up vanity mirror in the glove compartment, and a center-mounted rear HVAC vent for backseat passengers. The trunk is lined with matching carpeting and contains a toolkit.
Instrumentation consists of a 5,500-rpm tachometer, a 140-mph speedometer, a bank of warning lights for various vehicle systems, and gauges for the oil pressure, voltage, fuel level, and coolant temperature. The six-digit odometer indicates approximately 66K miles, which is in line with the last odometer reading dated February 24, 2021 on the Carfax report.
Under the lined, front-hinged hood is a naturally aspirated 4.2-liter inline-6 engine. It sends its power to the rear wheels through a BorgWarner 3-speed automatic. Within the last year and a half, the car received an oil change and an A/C system recharge. The video below shows the car being road-tested.
The brake pads and rotors were also changed within the last year and a half. Additional photos of the underbody are available in the picture carousel to the right.
A "Total Driving Experience" cassette, a cassette player cleaning kit, a service manual, a tool kit, maintenance and owner's handbooks, and a period brochure are included with the purchase of the car.
