Vehicle Story

This 1969 AMC AMX shows 58,300 miles and has received one gold and two platinum medals at AMC national shows during the seller's 30-year ownership. Power comes from a 390ci V8 paired with a 4-speed manual transmission and "Twin-Grip" limited-slip differential. Equipped with the full "Go Pack," the car features power front disc brakes, a heavy-duty cooling system, dual chrome exhaust tips, vintage Torque Thrust wheels, and racing stripes. Other features include tilt steering, factory undercoating, the original tan leather interior, and brand new tires, and recent work consisted of a radiator flush and pressure test and replacement of the pinion seal. This AMX is now offered with a set of factory correct wheels and redline tires in show condition, owner's manuals, the original window sticker, and a clear Colorado title in the seller's name.

The car was disassembled and stored by the original owner in preparation for restoration before the seller acquired it 30 years ago. The original Bittersweet Orange body had been previously resprayed in AMC Matador Red. After acquiring the vehicle, the seller sent it to the National AMC Club president to be reassembled to factory specifications. Exterior features include fastback body styling, twin white racing stripes extending over the top of the hood, cabin and trunk, chrome bumpers, exhaust tips, and trim, and clip-on mud flaps behind the rear wheels to protect against rock chips. Per the seller and a photo, a scratch was touched up above the right taillight.

Handling is managed by power steering, power front discs, and rear drums. The car rides on an upgraded factory suspension over a set of vintage Torque Thrust wheels wrapped in brand new Cooper Cobra tires. A set of redline tires over factory-correct Rallye wheels with the original beauty rings will go with the car.

The interior is trimmed in what is reported to be the original tan leather upholstery with a color-matching center console and carpet. The transmission shifter is floor-mounted and additional interior equipment includes heat, factory air conditioning, tilt steering, an AM/FM radio, and all other optional features for the model year. The lined trunk houses a spare tire, tools, and an inflator kit.

Instrumentation is framed in the dash by a chrome and leather 3-spoke steering wheel and consists of a 140-mph speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer with integrated fuel and coolant temperature readouts, and an analog clock. The 5-digit odometer shows approximately 58,300 miles, which the seller asserts is true to the car.

The body-colored engine bay is home to the rebuilt 390ci high output V8 topped with a 4-barrel carburetor and chrome air cleaner and delivering 315 horsepower when new. That power is transferred to the rear wheels through a professionally installed 4-speed manual transmission which replaced the original automatic under prior ownership. A heavy-duty cooling system, " Twin-Grip" limited-slip differential, and dual exhaust exits are part of the factory "Go Pack." Per the seller, the radiator was recently repaired and pressure tested and the pinion seal was replaced.

Additional photos of the underside are available in the gallery.

Owner's books, the original owner identification card, and the original window sticker showing an MSRP of $4,754.65 will go with the car. Seller notes that the trophies are not part of the sale. Starting videos are available below.

Thanks for replying, I love the car. The AMX has always been one of my dream cars (like a lot of other people). I'd bid but I am about 2 weeks from selling my Jeep. Once that is done I could legitimately bid. Until that is done I would not feel right about bidding just in case something goes sideways in the sale of my Jeep. Wife is adamant about 1 toy at a time. Anyway, if it doesn't sell I will look for it in the classifieds here.

Please note: I had a professional mechanic check the front suspension and while the lower control arm bushings are reportedly worn, everything else looks good. The car handles well & there was no uneven wear on the previous set of tires (recently replaced and visible in at least of the gallery photos). The original seat leather is in excellent condition, but the foam under the seats is fairly dry and will need replacement. I know this car very well and encourage any questions.
