1961 Austin-Healey Sprite

OVERVIEW

This 1961 Austin-Healey "Bugeye" Sprite MKI has been with the seller for nine years and was reportedly mechanically overhauled by David Silberkleit of Bugeyeguy.com. It is powered by a 948cc A-Series inline-four engine backed by a four-speed manual transmission. Features include SU carburetors, rack-and-pinion steering, bucket seats, and several new parts. Finished in silver and equipped with a black convertible top over a red vinyl interior, this Austin-Healey is available now and comes with a cockpit tonneau cover and a clear Florida title in the seller's name.

EXTERIOR – FEATURES

The reportedly rust-free exterior was refinished in metallic silver under previous ownership. Features include front nerf bars, a chrome grille, a black folding convertible top with sliding side windows, a rear fuel tank filler, and chrome rear bumperettes. EXTERIOR - WHEELS AND TIRES

A set of 13-inch silver steel wheels with chrome dog dish hub caps is wrapped in 155/80 Vredestein Quatrac 2 radial tires.

INTERIOR – FEATURES

The bucket seats and dashboard are upholstered in red vinyl. Features include manual steering and brakes, a floor-mounted manual transmission shifter, and a three-spoke Moto-Lita aluminum steering wheel with a wood rim. The seller states that this Sprite runs and drives well and that all gauges and lights work.

INTERIOR – GAUGES

A 100-mph speedometer, a 6K-rpm tachometer, and gauges for the fuel level, oil pressure, and water temperature are located ahead of the driver. With 9,000 miles added during current ownership, the odometer reads 64,000 miles, which the seller reports to be accurate.

ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION

Power is provided by a 948cc A-Series inline-four and backed by a rebuilt four-speed manual gearbox. The seller states that the oil was changed in the summer of 2022 and that a new clutch, radiator, and electric fuel pump have been installed. A video of this Sprite driving is available below. 

UNDERCARRIAGE

This Austin-Healey is equipped with a refurbished suspension. Braking is provided by manual front discs and rear drums. A single exhaust system exits at the rear through a pair of outlets. New parts include the brake master cylinder, springs, and shocks. The seller has posted two undercarriage videos below.
