Vehicle Story

OVERVIEW

This 1960 Chevrolet Corvette has been in the same family since new and is equipped with a 283ci V8 that has been enlarged into a 302 and a BorgWarner T-10 four-speed manual transmission, both of which are original and rebuilt, according to the seller. Features include rebuilt dual factory carburetors, an AM radio, electronic ignition, a new exhaust system, new brakes, and bucket seats. Finished in beige over a black vinyl interior, this garage-kept C1 Corvette is available now and comes with the original wheels and tires, the original dual-point distributor, the original hood, the original convertible hardtop, and a clear California title in the seller's name.

EXTERIOR – FEATURES

The beige exterior features chrome bumpers, a driver-side mirror, a rear antenna, and dual bumper-exit exhaust outlets. The seller states that the fiberglass body is in great shape aside from minor wear and tear and the chrome is in excellent condition. Due to previous engine fire damage, the hood is not currently installed, but it will be included with the sale.

EXTERIOR - WHEELS AND TIRES

A set of black 17-inch Foose wheels is wrapped in 215/50/ZR17 BFGoodrich radial tires.

INTERIOR – FEATURES

The bucket seats are upholstered in black vinyl. Features include manual steering, brakes, and windows; a tan dashboard, steering wheel, and door panels; an AM radio; and a floor-mounted manual transmission shifter.

INTERIOR – GAUGES

A 160-mph speedometer, a 7K-rpm tachometer, and gauges for the fuel level, temperature, battery, and oil pressure are located ahead of the driver. The odometer reads 95,000 miles, but the true mileage on this vehicle is unknown.

ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION

Power is provided by a 283ci V8 that was bored .030 over into a 302 and backed by a BorgWarner T-10 four-speed manual transmission. According to the seller, both are original and have been rebuilt. Engine bay features include rebuilt factory dual quad Carter carburetors, an aluminum intake manifold, finned aluminum Corvette valve covers, and an MSD electronic distributor. The seller states that in 1978, the engine backfired and caught fire, which lead to wiring and hood damage. After that, the car was stored in a garage until 2020, when the seller inherited it.

UNDERCARRIAGE

This Corvette was originally equipped with an independent front suspension and a solid rear drive axle. Braking is provided by upgraded manual front discs and rear drums. The seller states that the shocks need to be replaced and an alignment needs to be performed. They add that the brakes, brake cylinder, and everything else mechanical, including the exhaust and gas tank, are new.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

The seller will include the original wheels and tires, dual-point distributor, hood, and convertible hardtop as part of the sale.

@bvirchis13 – It is hard to get the engine stamp because it is in the back and could not be photographed. I'll see if I have a photo of the engine stamp when the motor was rebuilt and get back to you ...

* the motor stamp is located on a pad in front of the passenger side head. If it is painted a little lacquer thinner to wipe off the paint is preffered as not to scratch the metal pad. It appears right beside the Generator, so there is easy access especially without a hood. thanks

@ba1927 – Good Afternoon: Just as a point of information a 283 has to go +.120 to become a 302and it is actually a 301 which was a common scenario prior to the 327 ci engines making there debut in 1962 if the motor is a +.030 overbore I believe it is a 287ci just my $.02 ...

You are correct. sorry, that was a miscalculation on my part.

@SteveZimmerman – is there an available running walk-around ? or test drive video ?? ...

Sorry Steve, I don't have a video of the car running but it runs great and starts everytime with the electronic ignition. The breaks are excellent especially since I added the disk brakes to the front. The car is hard to steer at slow speeds because there is not power steering but that is Original.

@Elcamino64 – Do all gauges work properly, plus the heater and wipers? ...

All the gauges work but the heater and wipers were not rewired. Those would be easy fixes. I only drove the car in fair weather

@AlanSmith – 30over is 292 ci 60over is 301 I did it to mine in 68 ...

The car has the original 283 motor and block and when I rebuilt it, I honed the cylinders .30 over. So, according to your calculation it is a 292 cu.

The car has the original 283 motor and when I rebuilt it, I honed the cylinders .30 over. So, whatever the CU in is with that addition to the volume of the cylinders, is the new CU total.
