Vehicle Story

This 1966 Ford Bronco was converted early on from a sport utility wagon to a half cab pickup body and has been driven approximately 10k miles since completion of the build. Since acquiring the vehicle the seller has poured in over $23,000 in the form of exterior and interior modifications and updates including a Bilstein suspension, disc brakes, Vintage Air HVAC, a $5,000 vintage Bluetooth audio system, a new steering wheel and gauge cluster, floor insulation, and more. Power comes from an Edelbrock-upgraded 302ci V8 which is fed by two fuel tanks and is paired with a 4-speed manual transmission and 2-speed transfer case. Finished in red with a tan hardtop over a reupholstered black vinyl interior, this first-year custom Bronco is now offered with extra wheels, build receipts, a $700 credit at Tom’s Bronco Parts, and a clear Louisiana title in the seller’s name.

The Bronco launched in 1966 at Ford’s Wayne, Michigan assembly plant and rolled down the ramp riding on a 92” wheelbase and available in wagon, pickup, and roadster body styles. This Bronco originated as a wagon but was converted to pickup configuration under prior ownership. A fresh coat of red paint was applied as part of the restoration, and the cab is topped by a tan hardtop. Additional exterior features include an ivory-painted grille, spray-in Rhino bedliner, black steel tubular bumpers and side steps, and a tow receiver. The seller notes that there are a few scratches and blemishes on the hood, and driver-side door, most of which have been taken care of as part of a $3,300 touch-up, and photos show scuffing and wear on the side steps.

Polished aluminum wheels with chrome center caps are wrapped in El Dorado Sport Fury tires and handling is managed by power steering and newer power-assisted disc brakes with replacement lines. The suspension has been updated with replacement Bilstein shock absorbers, leaf springs, steering arms, and ball joints.

Interior upgrades include later-model front buckets covered in black vinyl, a fold-down center armrest, and newer insulation, floor mats, carpeting, door panels, and a wood-rimmed steering wheel. Woodgrain trim is featured for the door panels, and the door sills wear Bronco-branded aluminum kick plates. Amenities include a Vintage Air A/C system and a vintage-look Bluetooth audio system with an amplifier, subwoofers, and door-mounted speakers.

A replacement gauge cluster carries a factory-original look, featuring a 100-mph speedometer along with integrated readouts for voltage, fuel level, coolant temperature, and oil pressure. The five-digit odometer shows 200 miles, though true chassis mileage is unknown.

The 302ci V8 is equipped with a two-barrel carburetor and Edelbrock valve covers and receives fuel from two bed-mounted tanks. Power is directed to all four wheels through a 4-speed manual transmission and 2-speed transfer case with dual sticks. Recent maintenance included replacement of the battery and an annual service.

Photos showing the underside are available in the carousel.

The sale includes an extra set of 15” wheels, receipts from the build, and a copy of Bronco Driver Magazine in which the vehicle was previously featured. A $700 credit is available at Tom's Bronco Parts, and the seller reports that he can use it to order any parts the buyer wants or needs and the items will be sent directly to the buyer.
