Vehicle Story

This 1935 Ford Model 48 Deluxe Phaeton four-door convertible received custom touches including a chopped windshield, shaved door handles, and a stainless steel dual exhaust system as part of a complete inside-and-out restoration. It has been driven 2,612 miles since receiving a Chevrolet 350ci V8 crate engine that is fed by an Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor and mated to a 3-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes a Mustang II independent suspension, BFGoodrich whitewall tires, and power-assisted front disc brakes. Finished in maroon with a cream soft top over a cream vinyl interior, this Model 48 is now offered by the selling dealer with a clear title.

The Model 48 was introduced in 1935 as a successor to the outgoing Model 40A. Cosmetic changes included a grille that was pushed forward and more integrated fenders. Trim levels included Standard and Deluxe. This customized pillarless four-door is described as having a rust-free body with even gaps. As a Phaeton, this model does not have roll-up side windows. The body was smoothed, filled, and shaved, after which it was repainted maroon and equipped with a contrasting cream soft top. Features include a stainless steel front bumper, a chrome grille, painted headlamp buckets, a chopped windshield, etched wind wings, louvered side aprons, and rubber treads on the running boards. A spare wire wheel and tire are mounted under a cover at the rear end. The chrome tips of the stainless steel dual exhaust system exit below.

Steel 15-inch wheels with chrome trim rings and hub caps are set inside of BFGoodrich Silvertown 215/75-series whitewall tires. The chassis uses a U-profile ladder frame and has been upgraded with a Ford Mustang II independent front suspension. Stopping power comes from power-assisted discs up front and drums at the rear. Steering is also power-assisted.

The interior is dressed with cream vinyl bench upholstery both front and rear, matched to the door panels, carpeting, and floor mats. Features include a Gennie shifter, map pockets, and a chrome tilt-adjustable steering column with a Budnik steering wheel.

The modern white-faced VDO instrumentation includes a 120-mph speedometer along with gauges for the oil pressure, coolant temperature, voltage, and fuel level. The digital odometer reads 2,612 miles which reflects the accrued mileage since the restoration was completed. True mileage on the chassis is unknown.

The Chevrolet 350ci V8 has been upgraded with an Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor, an Edelbrock Performer intake manifold, chrome valve covers, a mechanical fuel pump, and a heavy-duty radiator with an electric fan. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a floor-shifted 3-speed automatic transmission and a 9-inch rear end.
