1968 Ford Galaxie XL Convertible

This 1968 Ford Galaxie XL convertible has been driven occasionally by the seller and equipped with a replacement interior along with a new retractable top in their five years of ownership. It is powered by a 390ci FE V8 paired with a C6 SelectShift 3-speed automatic transmission and features simulated woodgrain interior trim, a vinyl snap-on convertible boot, and whitewall tires. Finished in Robin Egg Blue over a blue vinyl interior, this Galaxie is now offered with an owner’s manual and a clear Ohio title in the seller’s name.

The full-sized Galaxie model was first introduced in 1959 as a successor to the Fairlane. Design changes in 1968 included the addition of hideaway headlights and side marker lamps. This Galaxie XL convertible from that year was repainted Robin Egg Blue under prior ownership and features custom pinstriping. A replacement white convertible top along with a snap-on boot was added. Brightwork includes XL badging on the hood and rear quarters.

The steel 15-inch wheels have polished hubcaps and are wrapped in whitewall tires.

The interior is fitted with a blue vinyl split-bench seat up front, a full bench in the rear, and matching door panels and carpeting that was replaced in 2020. The cabin is lined with simulated woodgrain veneer and equipped with an air conditioning system and radio, both of which are currently non-operational.

Instrumentation consists of a sweeping 120-mph speedometer, a fuel gauge, and auxiliary warning lamps. The 5-digit mechanical odometer currently shows 36,904 miles, which is believed by the seller to be original. The true mileage on the chassis is unknown.

The 390ci FE V8 is fed by a two-barrel carburetor and was factory rated at 265 horsepower when new. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a column-shifted C6 SelectShift 3-speed automatic transmission.

The underside was undercoated in 2019. The suspension uses a three-link setup at the rear.
