Vehicle Story

This 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air two-door sedan has driven fewer than 4,000 miles since completion of a frame-off restoration and is powered by a rebuilt 283ci V8 backed by a rebuilt Powerglide 2-speed automatic transmission. It is an Arizona-owned car that has been with the seller for five years and features a repaint in its original color combination, a rebuilt suspension, wide whitewall tires, and power brakes. Finished in two-tone turquoise and white over a black and turquoise interior, this Bel Air is now offered with restoration documentation and a clear Arizona title in the seller’s name.

As a continuation of Chevrolet’s tri-five series of cars that initially launched in 1955, styling revisions were made to the overall shoebox shape in the model years that followed. In 1957, the grille and side moldings were changed and the car received more prominent tailfins at the rear. This Bel Air two-door sedan from that year was repainted two-tone turquoise and white about 4,000 miles ago as part of a frame-off restoration. The exterior is surrounded in good-condition chrome brightwork for the bumpers, hood ornamentation, side moldings, rocker moldings, and scripted Bel Air badging on the rear quarters.

Steel 14-inch wheels with polished hubcaps are wrapped in wide whitewall tires.

The refurbished interior is trimmed with reupholstered front and rear bench seats in turquoise and black vinyl, matched to the door panels, metal dash, carpeting, and floor mats. Features include lap belts for both front and rear passengers, anodized Bel Air badging, an aluminum dash trim panel, electric windshield wipers, and an analog clock.

Instrumentation includes a 120-mph speedometer, an analog clock, and auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature and fuel level. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 87K miles, although true mileage on the chassis is unknown.

The rebuilt 4-barrel 283ci Power Pack V8 received an oil change in December 2021. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a column-shifted rebuilt 2-speed Powerglide automatic transmission and an original rear end. The seller notes that there is a transmission leak noted if the car is parked for several weeks. Braking is power-assisted, and the seller notes that the suspension components have been rebuilt.

The sale includes restoration documentation.
