Vehicle Story

OVERVIEW

This 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu is a Yenko tribute built by Milani's Autocraft in Novato, California in 2014. It has been with the seller for 10 years and is powered by a 1970 427ci V8 GM crate engine backed by a TH400 three-speed automatic transmission with a 2,500-rpm stall convertor. Features include power steering, power disc brakes, a B&M shifter, Hotchkis adjustable trailing arms, Hotchkis front and rear springs, a Flaming River tilt steering column, and a retro-look AM/FM stereo with Bluetooth. Refinished in Burnt Orange Metallic over a black leather interior, this Chevelle is available now and comes with repair and receipts, two sets of mufflers and exhaust pipes for street and track use, and a clear California title in the seller’s name.

EXTERIOR - FEATURES

The exterior was refinished in PPG Envirobase Burnt Orange Metallic and clear coat in 2014. Features include chrome bumpers, a black grille with stainless steel accents, a big-block hood, a chrome driver-side mirror housing, and black side accent stripes with the Yenko/SC logo.

EXTERIOR - WHEELS AND TIRES

A set of silver steel Chevrolet SS wheels with stainless trim rings and center caps is wrapped in radial tires.

INTERIOR - FEATURES

The front bench seat and matching rear seat were reupholstered in black leather as part of the build process completed in 2014. Features include black trim and door panels, manual windows, black carpeting, a floor-mounted B&M automatic transmission shifter, power steering, power brakes, and a matte black steel dashboard with a black top pad. The sound system was installed by Custom Mobile Electronics in Novato, California and consists of a retro-look AM/FM stereo with Bluetooth, kick-panel speakers, hidden rear speakers, and an amplifier. The new front light, engine, and under-dash wiring harnesses from M & H Electric Fabricators are equipped with factory-correct plugs and ends, according to the seller.

INTERIOR - GAUGES

A 120-mph speedometer and gauges for the fuel level, coolant temperature, and generator are located ahead of the driver. With fewer than 2K miles added during current ownership, the odometer reads 40,620 miles but the true mileage on this vehicle is unknown.

ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION

Power is provided by an L88 427ci V8 GM crate engine backed by a TH400 three-speed automatic transmission with a 2,500-rpm stall convertor. The seller reports the engine was purchased in 1970 and has been professionally built and balanced by RPM Engine in Rohnert Park, California; the gearbox was built by Marin Autotrans of Novato, California. On a dyno, the engine reportedly generated 530 horsepower and 576 lb-ft of torque at the crankshaft. Features include factory GM aluminum heads with snowflake casting marks, a roller cam, a roller timing chain, roller rockers, Hooker headers, an Edelbrock aluminum water pump, an aluminum intake, an eight-quart oil pan, orange Chevrolet-branded valve covers, and a black Chevrolet air cleaner. In April of 2022, the oil and oil filter were changed and the timing was checked.

UNDERCARRIAGE

This Chevelle was factory-equipped with an independent front suspension and a solid rear drive axle. The suspension has been upgraded with new bushings, ball joints, inner and outer tie rod ends, Hotchkis front and rear springs with a one-inch drop, Hotchkis adjustable rear trailing arms, front and rear sway bars, and 3.55:1 rear gearing with Positraction. Braking is provided by power front discs and rear drums. Additional photos of the undercarriage can be found in the carousel to the right.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

The seller will include copies of the repair and restoration receipts if buyer desires and two sets of mufflers and exhaust pipes for street and track use with the sale.
