Vehicle Story

OVERVIEW

This 1966 Ford Mustang convertible is an older restoration completed in 2004. It is powered by a rebuilt 289ci Ford V8 engine backed by an automatic transmission. Features include manual steering, brakes, and windows; rally fog lamps; a new power convertible top; and a 1,200-watt sound system. Finished in Merlot with Gold metalflake and equipped with a black convertible top over a black vinyl interior, this first-generation Mustang is available now and comes from the selling dealer with the uninstalled original set of wheels and a clear Massachusetts title.

EXTERIOR - FEATURES

As part of the 2004 restoration, new rear quarter panels were installed and the exterior was repainted Merlot with Gold metalflake. It features chrome bumpers, rally fog lights, a fender-mounted antenna, a driver-side mirror with a manual remote, and a new black vinyl power convertible top with a plastic rear window. Additional features include rocker trim and dual exhaust outlets.

EXTERIOR - WHEELS AND TIRES

A set of 14-inch chrome Magnum wheels with three-spoke center caps and black accents is wrapped in radial tires.

INTERIOR – FEATURES

The front bucket and rear bench seats reportedly wear the original black vinyl Pony-print upholstery. Features include black rear trim and door panels; black carpeting; black carpeted floor mats; a floor-mounted automatic transmission shifter; manual steering, brakes, and windows; a black steel dashboard with woodgrain trim and a black vinyl top pad; and a 1,200-watt CD stereo.

INTERIOR - GAUGES

A 140-mph speedometer and gauges for the fuel level, oil pressure, amperage, and coolant temperature are located in a panel ahead of the driver. The odometer reads 97,700 miles but the true mileage on this vehicle is unknown.

ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION

Power is provided by a rebuilt 289ci Ford V8 engine with a mild camshaft. Power is delivered to the rear wheels by an automatic transmission. Underhood features include cast aluminum valve covers finished in black with brushed fins, a chrome air cleaner, an aluminum intake, full-length tube exhaust headers, a windshield washer, and a quick battery disconnect. The selling dealer notes that the car needs an oil pressure sending unit.

UNDERCARRIAGE

This Mustang was factory-equipped with an independent front suspension and a solid rear drive axle. Braking is provided by the reportedly original drums. During the restoration, new torque boxes, floor pans, and ladder supports were installed. Additional photos of the undercarriage can be seen in the carousel to the right.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

The selling dealer will include the uninstalled original set of wheels as part of the sale.

Sorry if I missed it, but, how many miles are on the rebuilt motor? Besides the "mild" cam, any other improvements to the rebuild, ie: heads, manifold, carburetor???
