Vehicle Story

OVERVIEW

This 1966 Sunbeam Tiger convertible is powered by a Ford 260ci V8 backed by a four-speed manual transmission. Features include a digital Alpine AM/FM/CD stereo, a Holley four-barrel carburetor, an Edelbrock aluminum manifold, rack-and-pinion steering, and front disc brakes. Finished in Carnival Red with a black vinyl top over a black vinyl interior, this Sunbeam Tiger is available now and comes from the selling dealer with a clear title.

EXTERIOR - FEATURES

The Carnival Red body features chrome bumpers, a chrome grille, a forward-tilting hood, dual side mirrors, a fender-mounted antenna, bodyside trim with Tiger emblems, a folding black convertible top with a plastic rear window, and a Sunbeam trunk emblem.

EXTERIOR - WHEELS AND TIRES

A set of eight-spoke Panasport aluminum wheels with metallic silver centers and polished lips is wrapped in Dunlop radial tires.

INTERIOR – FEATURES

The bucket seats, center console, and door panels are upholstered in black vinyl. Features include manual windows, a floor-mounted manual shifter, manual steering and brakes, a digital Alpine AM/FM/CD stereo, and a three-spoke Moto-Lita steering wheel.

INTERIOR - GAUGES

A 140-mph speedometer, an 8K-rpm tachometer, and gauges for the fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and amps are in a woodgrain panel ahead of the driver. The odometer reads 85,035 miles but the true mileage on this vehicle is unknown.

ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION

Power is provided by a Ford 260ci V8 and backed by a four-speed manual transmission. Underhood features include finned aluminum valve covers, an Edelbrock aluminum intake, a Holley air cleaner, and an Edelbrock air filter. A video of the engine starting and running can be seen below.

UNDERCARRIAGE

This Sunbeam was factory-equipped with an independent front suspension, rack-and-pinion steering, and a solid rear drive axle. Manual front discs and rear drums provide braking. A full-length dual exhaust system exits at the rear. Additional photos of the undercarriage can be seen in the carousel to the right.

The selling dealer charges a $200 documentation fee in addition to the price of the car.

@Nittany318 – Can you tell me if there is any past bodywork done to the car? Has the engine or transmission ever changed or rebuilt? ...

The transmission has been replaced with an earlier produced transmission #015735 and looks like the motor has been rebuilt since it has been redecked. We don't have information on when that was done.

@oneprw – Thank you. I assume the Coventry Transport Museum "certification" did not involve an actual inspection of this vehicle but history of the VIN # on the car? Please post photos of the numbers on the car as shown in the Coventry documents. Thanks so much, Happy Holidays! ...

The Coventry Authenticity letter indicates the numbers that they have in their records is recorded based on the VIN and is a true Tiger. We also can verify the extra bracing and battery relocation that we see from the underside. The motor appears to have been redecked so we can't verify the numbers, but the axle is the same number #C66-5972. The transmission is period correct, but the number #015735 is sequentially 80 before the original #015815.
