Vehicle Story

This 1967 Chevrolet Camaro two-door hardtop reportedly underwent a top-to-bottom restoration wherein it received replacement fenders, quarter panels, and doors for optimal fitment and show-quality finishes. Under the hood, the replacement 5.7-liter LS1 V8 benefits from an aluminum radiator, replacement wiring, a refurbished fuel system, and more. A custom interior was installed using TMI black seats and a replacement center console which houses the gate for a 6-speed manual transmission, and the interior received a Vintage Air climate-control system, a tilt steering column, and full sound deadening. Painted in red over a black vinyl and suede interior, this first-year Camaro is now offered with a clear Virginia title in the seller’s name.

The Camaro launched for the 1967 model year as a two-plus-two sports coupe or convertible on the F-body platform. This example was produced at the Norwood, Ohio plant and later in life received a full restoration involving body panel replacement and a professional respray in red. Among the areas of focus during the build, noteworthy updates included the replacement of the following: one-piece floor and trunk pan, quarter panels, and inner and outer wheel tubs, fenders, inner fenders, and doors. The resulting body is described as rust-free and exceptionally straight. The exterior retains brightwork for the bumpers, badging, and window trim, with aerodynamic spoilers fitted at both the front and rear. Details extend to a Rain Gear hidden windshield wiper system. There are photos in the accompanying carousel documenting various aspects of the restoration process.

A set of chrome-finished five-spoke American Racing Torque Thrust wheels are wrapped in brand new tires, and the car’s original underpinnings were subject to improvement thanks to the use of Hotchkis lowering springs, a CPP steering box, replacement control arm bushings, and new front disc brakes.

The interior received TMI Products black vinyl bucket seats and matching door panels, as well as replacement materials for the dash, headliner, and carpeting. The rear seat saw a complete sand-blast and powder-coating, and the door rubber and window felt were replaced. Amenities include a Vintage Air A/C system, full sound-deadening, a tilt-adjustable steering column with an aftermarket SS-branded wheel, and a replacement center console.

Instrumentation is provided courtesy of replacement gauges from Dakota Digital, dominated by a 150-mph speedometer and an 8,000-rpm tachometer with accompanying readouts for fuel level and coolant temperature. True mileage on the chassis is unknown since a digital odometer was installed at the time of restoration.

The 5.7-liter LS1 V8 received improvements to the cooling system in the form of an upgrade with an aluminum radiator and an electric fan. The fuel system was also upgraded with a replacement fuel tank and a Holley in-tank fuel pump, and the electrical system received a replacement American Auto wiring harness and a replacement engine wiring harness. A replacement McLeod clutch master cylinder has been installed, along with a new driveshaft. Power is moved to the rear wheels via a 6-speed manual transmission and a 12-bolt positraction rear end with 4.10 gears.

Photos showing the underside are available in the carousel.

All: We have spoken to the seller. He is currently 5 hours away from the vehicle and thus will not be able to provide any video or additional photos prior to the close. He did offer the following information: 60k on the LS1 when he got it and just under 100 miles since the build was completed; factory LS1 putting out ~330hp and runs "very well"; 6-speed Tremec with positraction and 4.10 gears; new power steering pump and steering box; new clutch and pressure plate; new tie rods and tie rods ends; CPP sway bar; rebuilt upper and lower control arms. The original seats are not available and the vehicle does not have a stereo. Per the seller, the stereo is the only missing element to make the car 100% complete.

Dissapointed with the seller and AutoHunter. I would like to bid on this car, but neither have responded to questions. I'm concerned the winner of the auction will have to pay the 6.5% buyers fee and end up with no car.
