This 1971 Ford Torino Cobra is located in North Carolina and shows just over 80k miles on the odometer. This Torino Cobra is complete with its factory original 429 4V Cobra Jet series V8 engine with a factory shaker hood mated to an automatic C6 Cruise-O-Matic transmission. The seller states it is a matching numbers Torino 429 Cobra with original sheet metal. The car was originally sold in Tennessee, restored in Virginia before being purchased by the current owner in Texas. Options include Traction-Lok Axle Ratio, Console, Magnum 500 chrome wheels, color-keyed racing mirrors, power steering, rear window louvers, power front disc brakes, black vinyl bucket seats, and AM radio. This Torino includes a Marti Report, factory build sheet, and a clean Texas title in the seller's name.
This car is finished in its original factory shade of Grabber Green Metallic (paint code #50002-A) with wide-set matte black racing stripes on the hood. One of 208 produced for the 1971 model year in this paint and trim code. A full restoration was completed in 2012 with all the original sheet metal being preserved. The Torino Cobra was one of 14 Torino models available for 1971, and was only available as a 2 door SportsRoof. The car is equipped with backlite louvers and color-keyed racing mirrors.
The OEM factory 15” Magnum 500 chrome wheels are wrapped in BFGoodrich Radial tires. Also, this Torino has the optional power front disc brakes from the factory and are in working order. A factory spare tire is also included.
The interior is fitted with two tone Black Knit Vinyl with grey insert bucket seats and factory optioned center console. Black carpet wraps around the floorboard and transitions to an all-black dash interior and door panels. The Cobra emblem can be seen just above the armrest.
The gauge cluster is fitted with a linear style speedometer centered on the driver and a ribbon-style tachometer in the dashboard, and is noted to be in working order by the seller.
The seller states the drive train is matching numbers.The original 429-4V CJ V8 engine with Ram Air was rated at 370hp when it rolled off the assembly line on August 26th 1970 – a full 6 days ahead of schedule. An optioned 3.5 Traction-lok axle ratio and C-6 Select Shift Cruise-O-Matic automatic 3 speed transmission channel the power to the rear wheels. This Torino is one of 339 produced in this engine and transmission code for 1971.
The underside of the Torino is fitted with a polished stainless steel dual exhaust. The Cobra came standard with the competition suspension consisting of extra heavy-duty front and rear springs (500lb/inch front and 210lb/inch rear), Gabriel shocks, and a large 0.95” front sway bar (larger than the standard 0.75” standard front sway bar on other suspensions).
