This 1957 Ford Thunderbird rolled off the factory line equipped with an "E-Code" 312ci dual carbureted V8 and backed by an automatic transmission. It has been fully restored and upgraded with power steering and power brake kits, along with new brand brake lines and a replaced, updated dual master cylinder. In addition to these updates, the current owner has also replaced the rear wheel cylinders, the water pump, all of the fuel lines, the ignition wiring at the coil and resistor, and has replaced all intake gaskets, etc. Recent work also includes a front-end rebuild, fuel system overhaul, and a newly installed exhaust system. Located in Torrance, California, this E-Code Thunderbird is now offered for sale by the selling dealer.
The Thunderbird’s body color has been repainted from the factory EE code of “Colonial White” to a color known as “Inca Gold”, which was an optional color for 1957 Thunderbirds in the original line-up. The Thunderbird body was revised for 1957 with a reshaped front bumper, a larger grille and tailfins, and larger tail lamps that wrap around each tailfin. All lights are fully functional and free of any damage.
This convertible model of Thunderbird features a removable fiberglass hardtop with portholes on both sides of the hardtop. In addition, this Thunderbird is equipped with full wheel covers, white sidewall tires, winged 'Thunderbird' front end emblem, stainless steel window surround moldings, and rear fender skirts. A full set of four new whitewall radial tires have just been installed on brand new chrome wire wheels with matching center caps. All of the original chrome was removed and professionally re-chromed.
The interior has been reupholstered in a simple Black & White vinyl interior bench seating and matching trim. The interior features updated safety belts, automatic interior courtesy lighting, rayon loop carpeting, and a half-circle steering wheel horn ring. The ignition is positioned on the left-hand side of the steering column. The chrome-accentuated dash features five gauges for monitoring speed, pressure, temperature, and more.
Options include a fully functional air heater and defroster as well as an original Town & Country radio, electric clock, and 4-way power bench seats for two. The door panels feature matching chromed window cranks to operate the windows on either side of the vehicle. The chrome-accented floor shifter matches the chrome dash inlay and other chromed accessories that can be seen throughout this Thunderbird.
The Thunderbird retains its factory optional 312/270HP 2x4 BBL 'E' Code V8 engine rated at 270 horsepower when new. The original engine featured here is equipped with two four-barrel Holley carburetors and a factory engine dress kit, paired with a Ford-O-Matic automatic transmission. Additional features include power brakes, power steering, and an engine dress kit.
Additional underside photos are available in the gallery.
This sale includes both the 1957 Ford Thunderbird handbook and manual. This particular car has had only three owners since rolling off of the factory line in 1957 and has since received any restoration work required of it whilst in the owner’s collection with no expense spared as documented by a file of service records. The original spare wheel and jack are included in the trunk along with an original style trunk liner.
