This 1969 Oldsmobile 442 convertible is a muscle car on the GM A-body platform that is powered by a numbers-matching 400ci V8 paired with 3-speed TH400 automatic transmission. Equipment includes full gauges, a center console with woodgrain trim, and a newer stereo. Finished in red with dual black accent stripes over a reupholstered black vinyl interior, this second-generation 442 is now offered with records, a convertible boot, and a clear Ontario registration in the seller’s name.
First offered in 1964, the 442 model shared an A-body platform with fellow General Motors siblings and grew into a second-generation beginning in 1968. This 442 from the subsequent year was resprayed in red with dual accent stripes, reported to have a rust-free body, and having been stored in a climate-controlled garage since. The retractable top is black canvas, and brightwork for the grille, bumpers, windshield surround, and other trim is said to be in good condition. A power antenna and dual polished exhausts are located at the rear, and a snap-on black vinyl convertible boot is included.
Polished aluminum five-spoke wheels are mounted to tires with good remaining tread life. Handling is assisted by both power steering and power brakes.
The interior offers reupholstered black vinyl bucket seats, separated by a full-length center console. The door panels, dash, and carpeting are color-matched, and the cabin is accented in woodgrain trim. Amenities include a tilt steering wheel, a modern AM/FM/CD stereo, and a refinished trunk.
Instrumentation is provided by a central 120-mph speedometer, an analog clock with a surrounding 7k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and voltage. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 66k miles, although true mileage on the chassis is unknown.
The numbers-matching 400ci V8 is capped by a bright-finished air cleaner with 442 decals. The seller notes that the car leaks some fluids, and the odometer makes noise. The last service was two years ago. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a 3-speed TH400 automatic transmission and a 12-bolt rear end with 3.42 gears.
Photos showing the underside are available in the carousel.
The sale includes records and a convertible boot.
