This 1958 Chevrolet Impala sport coupe that received a frame-off restoration, whitewall tires, an electrical system upgrade, and a newer JVC stereo. Power is derived from a numbers-matching 283ci Turbo Fire V8 paired with a Powerglide 2-speed automatic transmission. This Impala has resided long-term in California and is reported to exemplify show-quality finishes and materials throughout. Finished in two-tone turquoise and black over a reupholstered interior, this first-year Impala is now offered with a clear California title in the seller’s name.
The Impala debuted for model year 1958 on the General Motors B-platform, offering longer, lower, and wider dimensions when compared to prior Chevrolet models. This two-door hardtop was the recipient of a frame-off restoration that included replacement of the floor pans and trunk and a subsequent repaint in two-tone turquoise and black. The seller states that the resulting body is rust-free with good finishes, and the perimeter features chrome bumpers, egg crate grille, sideview mirrors, and other trim. Other exterior attributes include quad headlamps, side spears, rear fender skirts, and dual polished exhausts.
Steel 14” wheels with full covers and checkered-flag center caps are wrapped in wide whitewall tires. The body rides on a coil spring suspension and features drum brakes at all four corners.
The interior is fitted with reupholstered tri-tone vinyl and cloth bench seating, featuring black outer panels and striped multi-color inserts. Matching materials are carried through to the door panels, dash, and replacement carpeting. Amenities include gloss woodgrain trim, a chrome-accented steering wheel, and a modern JVC AM/FM/CD player mounted within the glove compartment. The trunk is finished in splatter paint.
Instrumentation includes a sweeping 120-mph speedometer and gauges for coolant temperature and fuel level. The odometer is a five-digit mechanical unit and chassis mileage is unknown.
The numbers-matching 283ci Turbo Fire V8 was factory rated at 145 horsepower when new and received an electrical system upgrade from a generator to an alternator. Power is directed to the rear wheels via a Powerglide 2-speed automatic transmission operated by a column-mounted shift lever.
A photo of a portion of the underside is shown above and photos of some of the restoration process can be found below and in the carousel.
