This 1970 Buick Gran Sport Stage 1 was assembled in April 1970 and subsequently received an inside-and-out restoration in its original color combination. A replacement big-block 455ci V8 was sourced from a 1973-model-year Stage 1 vehicle and is backed by a numbers-matching 4-speed manual transmission. The GS Stage 1 was reportedly owned by two former Buick City engineers before a third Buick City employee purchased the vehicle and had it refurbished with factory-correct specifications and trim, receiving a repaint in Diplomate Blue Metallic over a reupholstered Blue vinyl interior. This GS Stage 1 features amenities including woodgrain trim and WG rally wheels, now offered with a purchase order, an owner’s manual, Protect-O-Plate, maintenance documentation, and a clear Arizona title in the seller’s name.
The Gran Sport name was initially launched as an option package for the Buick Skylark but later became a separate series using the two-door Skylark body, leveraging the General Motors A-platform. This GS Stage 1 from 1970 was the recipient of a frame-off restoration under prior ownership and was repainted in its original Diplomatte Blue Metallic (28). Restoration photos are available from before, during, and after completion of the build, which included the repair of both rear quarters. Exterior design features include quad headlamps, a ram-air hood, bright bumpers and trim, and a dual-outlet exhaust system. The seller has provided detailed photographs showing areas of specific cosmetic blemishes.
WG 15” rally wheels with Buick center emblems are mounted to 245/60-sized Cooper Cobra Radial G/T raised-white-letter tires.
The interior is fitted with reupholstered Blue (181) vinyl fold-forward bucket seats, color-matched to the door panels, dash, and replacement carpeting. The dash is accented in a woodgrain overlay, and additional amenities include a push-button radio, a heater, and a vinyl-lined trunk with a spare tire.
Instrumentation includes squared bezels for the 120-mph speedometer, a 6k-rpm tachometer, and a combination gauge for fuel level, coolant temperature, and oil pressure. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads just under 6k miles since the restoration, although true mileage on the chassis is unknown.
The replacement 455ci V8 was sourced from a 1973 Stage 1 vehicle, along with a 1974-model Stage 1 distributor, all housed in a matte-black engine bay. This drivetrain carried a factory rating of 350 horsepower when new, and power is fed to the rear wheels via a numbers-matching 4-speed manual transmission.
Photos showing the underside are available in the carousel.
The sale includes documentation such as a purchase order, owner’s manual, Protect-O-Plate, a maintenance ledger, a Wayne Roberts report, and paperwork from the GS Historical Society. The seller has included a video from May of 2018.

@KidBuick – Hello Again, I went through the pictures and only number 7 is a picture of the Stage 1 in Arizona. I did submit pictures of the documents, the Protect-O-Plate, the original purchase order, and other documents. It is so near the end of the auction, I think it is too late to add any from Arizona, sorry for not being able to show you more. Rick ...
Thank you
@KidBuick – Hello, Yes you are correct, the majority of the pictures are from the pre-purchase inspection. There are a few from Arizona, off the top of my head there is a side view infront of my rv-garage that is stucco with a brown door. Let me look through and identify others for you Since purchasing the Stage 1, it has been stored, less than 100 miles have been added. Rick ...

Hello SixtiesMuscle, Yes, they are the original heads. I just spoke to the third owner who did the restoration and confirmed that they are the original heads. Thank you for your question and your interest.
