Vehicle Story

This1968 Chevrolet Corvair Monza showing 49,000 miles is a rear-engine convertible powered by a rebuilt air-cooled 164ci flat-six paired with an automatic transmission. The rust-free body was treated to a repaint and the addition of new bumpers, grille, and trim in 2009. Work performed within the past several months consisted of the installation of a new starter, drive belts, and brakes, as well as a new vinyl top. Finished in Grotto Blue over a reupholstered Blue vinyl interior, this second-generation Corvair is now offered with restoration documentation and photos and a clear Ohio title in the seller’s name.

The Corvair was offered in a variety of body styles on the Z-body platform for two generations between model years 1960 and 1969. Only 1,386 Chevrolet Corvair Monza Convertibles were built in 1968, and this second-generation example was repainted in Grotto Blue (Code D) and recently given a replacement white vinyl top with matching snap-on boot. Per the seller, the paint is in very good condition with only minor imperfections, and the chrome bumpers, grille, and trim were replaced at the time of the restoration.

14" steel Rallye wheels with polished trim rings and center caps are wrapped in new 215/80 BFGoodrich Radial T/A raised-white-letter tires. Photos show no evidence of curb rash. All new brakes were added within the past several months.

The interior is trimmed in Blue (707) vinyl over fold-forward bucket seats and rear bench with color-matching door panels and dash. Except for the carpeting, the interior is largely original, and the seller reports that aside from the radio and clock the power top, door buzzer, interior light, and speed control button are functional. The dash is reportedly free of cracks and no tears or imperfections are noted on the upholstery.

Behind the three-spoke factory steering wheel is an aluminum-bezel set of gauges consisting of a 120-mph speedometer, tachometer, and readouts for fuel level, coolant temperature, and more. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows approximately 49,000 miles, which the seller asserts is original mileage.

The rebuilt rear-mounted 164ci flat-six was rated at 110 horsepower when new and benefits from a new starter and recently rebuilt carburetor. Power is directed to the rear wheels via an automatic transmission.

The sale includes restoration documentation and a photo book, and a video is available for viewing below.

@3952 – Has the brake redo or been converted to dual for safety or still the original single? ...

I believe original configuration. I had front and back drum brakes replaced about three months ago. The brakes had been squeaking and pulling and were very difficult , but now they are easy to stop and no pulling when the brake pedal is applied.

@Oneslow1 – Hello, nice Car. Spare tire were mounted in engine compartment. Do you have a spare? Thanks. ...

Hi, no spare. The one that came with the car was in bad shape. The tires on the car are radials, and have less than 1,000 miles on them.
