Vehicle Story

This 1946 Ford Super Deluxe two-door is a restored, award-winning street rod that drives under the power of a replacement Chrysler 340ci V8 backed by a 4-speed manual transmission. As part of the car’s restoration, modern touches were added including 18” Ridler aluminum wheels, disc brakes, a CD stereo system, and custom hand-painted airbrush accents. Finished in Black over a reupholstered red velour interior, this Super Deluxe is now offered with a current New York registration in the seller’s name.

The 1946 model year Super Deluxe full-size Ford sedans rode on underpinnings similar to earlier models from 1942 onward, although cosmetic refinements were made including the addition of horizontal bars for the grille and a widened hood. This Super Deluxe displays a two-door body style and was repainted as part of a top-to-bottom restoration, finished in Black with hand-drawn blue pinstriping. The seller adds that this vehicle has been awarded trophies including Best Street Rod and Best Ford for its condition and preservation, and brightwork is noted to be in good condition for the bumpers, grille, headlight rings, side moldings, sideview mirrors, and window surrounds. The body features a two-piece windshield and an oval rear window, an electric antenna, and a dual exhaust system at the rear.

Polished aluminum 19” Ridler five-spoke wheels are mounted to low-profile Nitto Neo Gen tires. The braking system has been upgraded to discs, and steering is power-assisted.

The interior was refurbished at the time of restoration, having been outfitted in reupholstered red velour bucket seating with a folding armrest, with similar materials used on the door panels and headliner. The dash is color-matched in black and accented in chrome, with Super Deluxe badging on the passenger side. Additional amenities include a pistol-grip shift lever, wing windows, a leather-wrapped telescoping steering wheel, a heater, Ford-branded rubber floor mats, and a modern AM/FM/CD head unit. The trunk is carpeted and contains a spare tire and associated equipment.

Aftermarket gauges have been installed in place of the factory units and include a 100-mph speedometer and ancillary readouts for fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and voltage. An 8k-rpm Sunpro tachometer has been mounted to the steering column. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 36k miles, although true mileage on the chassis is unknown.

A detailed, custom-airbrushed engine bay features flames on the underside of the hood and houses the replacement Chrysler 340ci V8. Power is fed to the rear wheels via a floor-shifted 4-speed manual transmission.
