Vehicle Story

This 1965 Ford Mustang GT hardtop originally built in Ford's Dearborn, Michigan plant is finished in red with a black vinyl top over a black interior. It was restored in 1997 and repainted in its factory Rangoon Red. The rebuilt A-code 289ci V8 has rebuilt heads and is paired with the original 4-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes an aftermarket stereo, a 5-gauge instrument cluster, and a floor-mounted manual shifter. This 2-owner Mustang GT is available now with pictures and receipts associated with its restoration as well as a clear Minnesota title in the name of the current owner, who has had the car since 1996.

Configured with the GT Equipment Group, this Mustang has GT emblems, lower-body stripes, and grille-mounted foglights. During its 1997 restoration, it was stripped down to its frame and sandblasted. The body was repainted in Rangoon Red paint and features "FORD" lettering on the hood, a black vinyl top, and dual exhaust finishers that exit the car below the rear bumper.

This Mustang is equipped with original style wheels and 2 year old Hancook whitewall tires. The seller reports that the body has a few minor nicks and scratches on it and that the windshield is original. The chrome trim is also original, although it is pitted in some areas.

The cabin is furnished with black carpeting, black front bucket seats with lap belts, and a black rear bench seat. Equipment includes a 3-spoke steering wheel, manual windows, an aftermarket radio, and floor-mounted 4-speed manual shifter.

Another element of the GT Equipment Group is a 5-gauge instrument cluster, which is shown in the photo gallery. That contains a 140-mph speedometer and readouts for the fuel level, oil pressure, amperage, and engine temperature. The odometer shows 97,488 miles and was not rolled back when the engine was rebuilt, according to the seller.

As the tag shown in the photo gallery indicates, this Mustang has an A-code engine, meaning it is equipped with a 289ci V8 with a 4-Barrel carburetor. The engine was rebuilt when the Mustang was restored. Since then, the engine has accrued approximately 25,000 miles. The carburetor was rebuilt last year and the motor has rebuilt heads that enable the engine to accept unleaded fuel without the need for additives. The engine is connected to a 4-speed manual transmission that was not rebuilt but was equipped with a new clutch in 1997.

Last year, this Mustang received a new 2-cylinder brake system that replaced its 1-cylinder front and rear brake hardware. According to the current owner, the car's underpinnings were primed to prevent rust.

The car comes with a protective bra for the front grille, a set of mag wheels with whitewall tires, and its original AM radio.
