This 1937 Packard Six four-door is a three-owner, garage-kept touring sedan powered by a 237ci L-head inline-6 paired with a 3-speed manual transmission. This Six originated in Wilson, North Carolina and was retained by its original owner in that region before changing hands after its original owner passed away. The current seller has owned the vehicle for four years, during which time it received mechanical work on the wheel cylinders, lighting, water pump, and additional vehicle systems. Finished in black over a gray cloth interior, this third-generation Six is now offered with an owner’s manual and a clear North Carolina title in the seller’s name.
The Packard Motor Car Company in Detroit rolled out the Six luxury model beginning in 1913, with subsequent generations launching in 1921 and 1937 and body styles including range a coupe, convertible, and a sedan. The third generation Six from 1937 onward was slotted as a lower-priced alternative to the larger 120 model. This Six from that year has rear-hinged rear doors and is painted black. History shows this Six to be a three-owner car, having originated in the southeast since new, retained long-term in indoor storage by its original owner, and driven only in good weather throughout the seller’s ownership. The body is rust-free and features brightwork for the grille, bumpers, door handles, and other trim. Exterior bulbs have been upgraded to LED with exception of the headlights.
Steel 15” wheels with Packard Six-branded polished caps are mounted to wide-whitewall tires. The suspension leverages Packard’s independent front suspension, referred to as Safe-T-Flex.
The interior is fitted with tan cloth bench seats both front and rear, with color-matched material on the door panels and carpeting. Amenities include woodgrain veneer dash trim, an ash tray, manual-crank windows, and passenger grab-handles. The trunk has a lower compartment for the spare tire.
Instrumentation includes 100-mph speedometer along with gauges in the center dash for fuel level, oil pressure, voltage, and coolant temperature. The seller indicates that the fuel gauge does not work. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 40,160 miles, which the seller asserts is a true original reading.
The L-head 237ci inline-6 was rated at 100 horsepower when new and received an oil change in July 2020. Power comes from a six-volt electrical system, and thrust is fed to the rear wheels via a floor-shifted 3-speed manual transmission.
The sale includes an owner’s manual, and the owner has included a link to a 2012 YouTube video.
The owner states that the small glass on all 4 doors should be replaced, it is the original glass and is delaminating.
