This 1968 AMC AMX is a rust-free sports coupe with Magnum 500-style wheels, cold air conditioning, woodgrain interior trim, and a 390ci V8 paired with a Shift Command 3-speed automatic transmission. This AMX resided in the southwest region for an extended time and is described as having an original body, having been resprayed in Bronze Metallic with twin white stripes. The interior benefits from reupholstered black vinyl bucket seating, a radio, and full instrumentation. This AMX is now offered with a clear title in the seller’s name.
The AMX two-door coupe launched in 1968 as a GT-style muscle car from American Motors Corporation, positioned as a high-performance version of the four-seat Javelin. This AMX was resprayed in Bronze Metallic under prior ownership and according to the seller spent time previous in Arizona and Texas, offering a rust-free, original body. Brightwork is in good condition for the bumpers, window trim, rocker moldings, door handles, and sideview mirrors. Attributes include dual white accent stripes on the upper panels, AMX badging on the sail panels, an integrated rear spoiler, and a dual exhaust system at the rear.
Magnum 500-style 14” wheels are wrapped in BFGoodrich Radial T/A raised-white-letter tires, and handling is assisted by power front disc brakes.
The two-seat interior is fitted with reupholstered black vinyl fold-forward low-back buckets split by a center console, and color-matched materials to the door panels, dash, carpeting, and AMX-embroidered floor mats. The rear cargo area is fully carpeted as well, and the cabin is accented in woodgrain veneer on the door panels and steering wheel. Amenities include air conditioning and a push-button American Motors radio.
Instrumentation consists of a 120-mph speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, an analog clock, and a combination gauge for coolant temperature and fuel level. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 73k miles, although true mileage on the chassis is unknown.
The 390ci V8 features a forged steel camshaft and connecting rods, having been rated at 315 horsepower and 425 lb-ft of torque when new. Power is transferred to the rear wheels via a console-shifted BorgWarner Shift Command 3-speed automatic transmission and 2.87 gearing.
Additional undercarriage photos can be found in the gallery.
The seller has provided a test-drive video.
