This 1996 Jaguar Vanden Plas was acquired one month ago by a dealer from the previous owner who purchased the car new. It comes finished in black over a tan leather interior equipped with a power tilt and telescoping steering column, cruise control, and fold-down walnut picnic tables for rear passengers. Under the hood is a 4.0-liter I6, which is connected to a 4-speed automatic. Available now, this X300-series Jaguar long-wheelbase sedan comes with its owner's manual, a clean CARFAX report, and a clear title in the seller's name.
Jaguar followed up the XJ40 version of the XJ with the X300 generation, which replaced its predecessor's rectangular headlights with twin round units and added revised taillights. This 1996 Vanden Plas is an extended-wheelbase sedan dressed in black and accented with chrome grille, bumper, greenhouse, mirror, door, and trunk lid trim. It features a "leaper" hood ornament, front bumper-mounted amber turn signals, fog lights in the lower front fascia, a sunroof, and dual exhaust finishers.
The car rolls on Goodyear tires mounted on 16-inch wheels with Jaguar center caps.
The cabin is furnished with tan Autolux leather seats with pleated inserts and contrast piping, a tan dashboard, and tandoor panels. Woodgrain accents can be found on the leather-trimmed 4-spoke steering wheel, door panels, dashboard, and center console. The rear seating area has nearly five more inches of legroom compared to the back row of a standard-wheelbase X300-series XJ as well as walnut picnic tables that fold down from the backs of the front seats. According to the seller, the rear seats look as if they have never been sat in. Other equipment includes a power tilt and telescoping steering column; power windows, mirrors, and front seats; cruise control; and a trunk-mounted CD changer.
Inside the instrument cluster is a 7K-rpm tachometer and a 160-mph speedometer along with gauges for the fuel level, battery voltage, coolant temperature, and oil pressure. The digital odometer shows 65,593 miles.
Under the front-hinged hood is a naturally aspirated 4.0-liter "AJ16" I6 that was factory rated for 245 horsepower and 289 lb-ft of torque. The OBDII-compliant engine dispatches its output through a 4-speed automatic and the rear wheels. The CARFAX report shows that the head gasket was replaced in January of 2002.
The photo gallery to the right shows various pictures of the car's underbody.
In September of 2021, the car was inspected and a new battery and fuses were installed. Sale includes the owner's manual.
