This 1967 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray convertible with its original soft top was frame-off restored over the course of 8 years, during which time the frame was stripped and powder-coated, the body was repainted in its original color of Marlboro Maroon, and the interior was outfitted with rebuilt instrumentation and reupholstered seats. A replacement 396ci big-block V8 bored out 0.060 under the hood comes equipped with the car's original rebuilt carburetor and the intake and exhaust manifolds from a 427. The car sends its power to the road through its rebuilt factory-issued 4-speed manual gearbox and Positraction rear differential, and a set of refinished 15-inch wheels wrapped in newer P205/75R15 BFGoodrich Silvertown Redline Radial tires. Available now, this final-year C2 Corvette comes with its original vinyl-covered hardtop, an original sales brochure, records and receipts, a dynamometer printout verifying the engine's 403 horsepower and 365 lb-ft of torque, and a clear Pennsylvania title in the seller's name.
The second generation of the Chevrolet Corvette started with the 1963 model year and ran until 1967, when the car received restyled front fender louvers, bright wheel trim rings and center caps, and reverse lights in the center of the rear fascia. This particular car is one of 14,436 convertibles built for the 1967 model year and was put through a frame-off restoration during current ownership. The frame was stripped, power-washed, and inspected at Dias Spring of Erie, Pennsylvania, then powder-coated. The seller reports that all components were cleaned, repainted, and reassembled and that the frame was stenciled with the proper build number, date, and shim markings. Five years ago, the body was repainted in factory-correct Marlboro Maroon. It features pop-up headlight motors from Bair's Corvettes, a "stinger" hood with black accents, its original black convertible soft top and original vinyl-covered hardtop as well as brightwork on its bumpers, the frame around its new windshield, mirror housings, door handles, rocker panels, and taillight rings. Dual exhaust finishers exit the body below the rear bumper.
The 15-inch wheels are reportedly original and were measured for runout and refinished during the restoration process, then equipped with P205/75R15 BFGoodrich Silvertown Redline Radial tires.
The cabin is furnished with rebuilt seats reupholstered with black material from Al Knoch Interiors, black carpeting, black door panels, and a black dashboard. Brightwork is located on the door panels, center stack, and the passenger side of the dual-cowl dashboard. Equipment includes a 3-spoke steering wheel and the original rebuilt manual shifter mounted in the center console. According to the seller, the car came from Chevrolet's St. Louis, Missouri factory with an AM/FM radio. The center-mounted clock and the instrumentation in the dashboard, which includes a 160-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for the fuel level and battery charge, was reportedly rebuilt by Instrument Services, Inc. of Roscoe, Illinois. The seller reports there are 48K miles on the car, but fewer than 30 miles on the replacement engine.
The seller reports that the driver-side vent window has a small scratch and that there is a crack in the driver's seat.
The engine was replaced with a big-block 396ci V8 with a build date corresponding to the car's reported build date of December 7, 1966. It features a block bored .060” over by Craiger Race Engines of Clymer, New York and the intake and exhaust manifolds from a 427. Additional hardware includes electronic ignition and the car's rebuilt original carburetor and distributor. Per the seller, the V8's output was dynamometer-calculated to be 403.3 horsepower and 365.2 lb-ft torque at 5,800 rpm. The original 4-speed manual gearbox and Positraction rear differential were rebuilt by Bair's Corvettes and help deliver the Corvette's power to the road.
Pictures of the car's underbody are available in the photo carousel to the right.
Sale includes the car's original vinyl-covered hardtop, an original sales brochure, records and receipts, and a dynamometer printout.
