This 1961 Oldsmobile Starfire convertible has benefited from several updates, including being repainted white under previous ownership and being restored and equipped with new interior components, a new white convertible top, and a rebuilt 394ci V8 by its current owner. Equipment includes power steering, brakes, windows, and seats as well as an aftermarket JVC audio head unit with a CD player. Available now, this Oldsmobile Starfire comes with service records, receipts, a user's guide, and a clear title in the selling dealer's name.
Originally inspired by the Lockheed F-94 Starfire fighter jet and used on a concept car unveiled during GM's 1953 Motorama show, the Starfire name became the official designation for Oldsmobile's 98-series convertibles starting with the 1954 model year. By 1961, the Starfire was a standalone Oldsmobile convertible model. This particular car was repainted white by its previous owner and restored by its current owner, who also had the white fabric power-folding convertible top replaced. When stored, that sits under a red soft tonneau cover. Badging includes "OLDSMOBILE" lettering on the hood and "Starfire" script emblems on the front fenders and trunk lid. Brightwork can be found on the hood trim bars, quad headlight rings, front and rear wraparound bumpers, windshield surround, side trim bars, and rear fascia.
The car rolls on a set of Hankook Optimo H724 tires mounted on wheels with silver and red covers.
During the seller's five years of ownership, this Starfire was outfitted with a new factory-correct red interior and carpeting. Furnishings include Fisher-branded doorsill plates with signs of aging, red front bucket seats separated by a center console, a pair of rear seats, red door panels with carpeted lower sections, and a trunk lined with red carpeting that houses a spare wheel wrapped with a Hankook Optimo H724 tire. Brightwork is visible on the door panels, floor mats, dashboard, and center console. Like the driver's seat, the steering, brakes, and windows are power-operated. Other equipment includes an Oldsmobile-branded radio in the dashboard and an aftermarket JVC head unit with a CD player mounted below the climate controls.
Behind the two-spoke steering wheel is a bank of instruments comprised of a horizontal 120-mph speedometer and an analog clock and a fuel gauge set inside of oval-shaped housings. The analog odometer shows 86K miles, but true mileage is unknown.
As the photo carousel to the right shows, various parts of the engine bay were repainted, including the rebuilt 1961 Starfire 394ci V8, It features an air cleaner housing with red "OLDSMOBILE Starfire" and "ULTRA HIGH COMPRESSION" labels and is reportedly connected to the original three-speed Hydra-Matic automatic transmission and a new fuel tank, and routes its power through the original rear end.
Pictures of the underbody are available in the photo carousel.
An oil change was performed in the summer of 2021. Sale includes service records, receipts, and a user's guide.
