Vehicle Story

This 1954 Nash Metropolitan two-door is a restored and mechanically-sound English-built Series 1 hardtop powered by a 1.2-liter B-Series inline-4 paired with a 3-speed manual transmission. This Metropolitan offers clean body lines with newer paint finishes, chrome-hubcaps, and a show-quality interior with an upgraded sound system. Finished in two-tone red with a white top over a matching red and white interior, this first-year Metropolitan is now offered with a clear California title in the seller’s name.

The Metropolitan subcompact economy car was manufactured in England and first came to market in 1954 in both two-door hardtop and two-door convertible variants. This Metropolitan hardtop from the initial year was coated in a fresh coat of red with an accenting white top. The rust-free, straight body is accentuated by a Hudson grille ornament, chrome brightwork, side exhaust outlets, and a continental-type rear-mounted spare tire.

Steel 13” wheels with chrome hubcaps are wrapped in tires which show tread remaining.

The interior offers reupholstered two-tone red and white vinyl seating, carried through to the matching door panels, dash, carpeting. The dash top panel has an Airflyte logo placard and additional features include a heater and an AM/FM/MP3 head unit with USB input and aftermarket speakers.

Instrumentation is conveyed by an 85-mph speedometer and a fuel gauge. A five-digit mechanical odometer tracks mileage, although true mileage on the chassis is unknown.

The 1.2-liter B-Series inline-4 was rated at 42 horsepower and is said to run well per the seller. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a floor-shifted 3-speed transmission.
