Vehicle Story

This 1959 Volkswagen Beetle received a thorough restoration under previous ownership completed in 2015 that involved the exterior and interior being repainted and the upholstery being dyed to its original color. The body is finished in Anthracite Grey and covers a two-tone tomato and creme interior. Power is provided by a 1,600cc flat-four engine with single-port cylinder heads and a new carburetor. The engine is paired with a four-speed manual transaxle and a newer fuel pump and muffler, all of which were installed in 2018. This well-documented VW Beetle comes from the selling dealer with a clear California title and includes the original jack and tool kit, service and instruction manuals, and service and parts receipts.

The exterior was refinished in Anthracite Grey (L469) that is accented by chrome front and rear bumpers, trim, running boards, roof rack, and VW badging. In the front, there is a set of amber fog lights above the original black California license plate. At the rear, there is a non-functioning fog light that was installed for cosmetic purposes.

The car rides on 15-inch cream wheels featuring chrome VW-branded hubcaps and Firestone F560 tires were mounted in 2018. The full-size spare tire is located in the front trunk.

The interior was reportedly refurbished within the last eight years and comes furnished with two-tone tomato and creme seats and door panels. A white headliner, gray carpet covered by rubber mats, and the Anthracite Gray dashboard provide contrast to the upholstery. Storage space is provided by a wicker basket mounted under the dashboard and a wire basket on the transmission tunnel behind the gear shift lever. Equipment includes a fire extinguisher, a Euro-style RetroSound AM/FM radio with an auxiliary port, and a switch for the amber fog lights.

Instrumentation comes in the form of a 90-mph speedometer and a non-operational VDO fuel gauge. According to the selling dealer, the odometer currently indicates 23,773 miles, but true mileage is unknown.

The 1,600cc flat-four engine with single-port cylinder heads has a new fuel pump, oil pressure switch, distributor O-ring, and a replacement carburetor. The four-speed manual transmission, with an unsynchronized first gear, was rebuilt in the last 1,500 miles and comes equipped with a new clutch.

Pictures of the vehicle’s underbody are available in the photo carousel to the right.

Included with the sale are parts and service receipts and records, original service and instruction manuals, and the original jack and tool kit.

Seller

Thanks for visiting the 1959 VW Beetle auction. Classic Cars Ltd. is pleased to represent this 59 bug for one of our long-term customers. The VW is available to be viewed and or inspected at our Pleasanton, CA showroom. We welcome inspections prior to the end of the auction with 24 hours notice. Please contact us to schedule an appointment. Feel free to leave any questions in the comments section or reach out to us, we'll do out best to respond in a timely manner. This Beetle is an attention getter. It's simple, fun. and everywhere you go you get smiles and thumbs-up and everyone has a beetle story! Mechanically and cosmetically it is very well done. As noted in the write-up, everything works except the factory installed VDO fuel gauge. It can be operable if you can find the correct sending unit/float assembly... tough to find but they are out there. Again, let us know if you have any questions. Good luck bidding and Happy Thanksgiving!

Curious to see what this will bring here - it brought $20K 13 days ago on BaT but that apparently wasn't enough for the seller.
