Vehicle Story

This 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air comes finished in Tropical Turquoise with a white roof over a custom gray vinyl and tweed interior. On the outside, it is equipped with its reportedly original chrome and stainless steel trim, a set of chrome 5-spoke American Racing wheels, front disc brakes, and dual exhaust finishers. The cabin offers amenities such as refurbished seats, replacement carpeting, a Chevrolet push-button radio, an aftermarket JVC head unit and CD player, and 6”x9” speakers. Power is supplied by a rebuilt 283ci V8 paired with a Muncie M20 4-speed manual that sends output to the rear wheels. This Bel Air two-door sedan is available now from the selling dealer with a clear title.

The car was resprayed in its reportedly factory-issued colors of Tropical Turquoise and white under previous ownership approximately 25 years ago. According to the selling dealer, with the exception of the newer rear bumper, the exterior brightwork, which includes areas such as the dual hood ornaments, side accents, and greenhouse glass trim,  appears to be original to the car.

A set of American Racing 5-spoke chrome wheels wrapped in 13-year-old BFGoodrich Radial T/A front and 17-year-old Goodyear Eagle GT II rear tires connect it to the road. Pictures in the photo carousel to the right show chips in the paint on the driver-side B-pillar and roof as well as the patina on brightwork in various areas.

Inside, this Bel Air features replacement carpeting with floor mats and refurbished seats and door panels covered in gray vinyl and tweed cloth. It comes equipped with an aftermarket wood-rimmed steering wheel, manual windows, lap belts for six passengers, a Chevrolet-branded radio with tape player, a floor-mounted Hurst manual shifter topped with a cueball-style Hurst shift knob, an aftermarket JVC AM/FM radio head unit with CD player, and a pair of 6”x9” speakers mounted behind the rear bench seat. The body-color dash is accented with metallic trim and reportedly houses the car's original 120-mph speedometer, clock, and fuel and coolant temperature gauges. The odometer shows 689 miles, but true mileage is unknown. The current owner put approximately 2,500 miles on the car in their five years of ownership.

The body-color trunk is lined with gray carpeting and contains a spare tire protected by a chrome and body-color cover, a rubber mat, and the factory jack.

Chevrolet offered the 1955-1957 Bel Air with a variety of six- and eight-cylinder engines. This particular car gets its power from a rebuilt 283ci V8 equipped with Power Pack heads, aluminum valve covers, an aftermarket Holley four-barrel carburetor, a Be Cool aluminum radiator, a chrome air cleaner housing, and an Optima Redtop battery. A Muncie M20 4-speed manual from a later-model Chevrolet transfers the engine's output to the rear wheels.

Power braking performance has been upgraded with a dual-circuit master cylinder and front disc brakes. According to the selling dealer, the chassis was previously reinforced on the right side of the rear end and features rust-free floorpans along with aftermarket mufflers and a Hotchkis Sport Suspension sway bar. Pictures of the car's undercarriage are available in the photo carousel.
