This 1957 Ford Fairlane 500 Skyliner is a two-door retractable hardtop example showing just over 15,000 odometer miles and one of 20,766 produced for the model year after its premiere at the 1956 New York Auto Show. Power is produced by a 312ci Thunderbird V8 fed by a four-barrel carburetor while shifting is accomplished automatically by way of a two-speed Ford-O-Matic transmission and standard and optional equipment includes power steering, a heater defroster, push-button AM radio, seat belts, dual exhaust and more. The car is located in Alsip, Illinois and offered with a clean title held by the selling dealer.
Finished in a two-tone Flame Red (V) over Colonial White (E), the car's exterior is optioned with a power-operated retractable hardtop available from 1957 through 1959 which automatically stows the roof panels in the trunk at the push of a button. In addition, the car comes equipped with twin chrome side mirrors, chrome bumpers and stainless trimmings, windshield wipers and washer and dual exhaust.
Power steering is equipped to handle a set of standard wheels adorned with chrome Ford badged wheel covers wrapped in wide whitewall tires over mechanical brakes. The leaf-sprung solid rear axle has an open differential fitted with a 3.56:1 gear according to the trim tag while the front of the car is suspended independently by coils.
The interior is outfitted in two-tone red and white airweave vinyl (BF) upholstery over the front and rear bench seating and throughout with stainless trim pieces and red carpeting on the floors. Equipment includes a heater/defroster, push-button AM radio, dash-mounted analog clock, red seat belts, manually cranked windows and a power-retractable hardtop.
Instrumentation is housed in the dash behind the stock three-spoke steering wheel and consists of a half-moon shaped 120-mph speedometer along with dials for fuel level and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer is reported to show 15,318 miles of use, however, its accuracy and originality are currently unknown.
Power is sent to the rear wheels by 312ci Thunderbird V8 which was factory rated at 245hp paired with the two-speed Ford-O-Matic automatic transmission. The engine bay appears to have been kept in factory form and comes complete with "Thunderbird Special" valve covers, a four-barrel carburetor and stock cast exhaust manifolds leading to a dual exhaust system. No notable issues with the drivetrain are reported by the seller and the originality of the engine is currently unknown.
