Vehicle Story

This 1965 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu two-door hardtop was the recipient of a frame-off restoration in 2012 and has covered just 1,400 miles since the installation of a new performance-tuned drivetrain starting with a date code 1972 Chevrolet 402cid V8 paired with a rock crusher Muncie wide-ratio 4-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes a 12 bolt positraction rear end, rear air shocks, tilt steering wheel, 4 wheel power disc brakes, aftermarket air conditioning, tinted windows, and Weld Racing polished aluminum rims. Recent work includes an updated 105-amp chrome alternator, fuel system and brake lines overhaul, and a newly installed exhaust system. Finished in two-tone silver and blue over a reupholstered black vinyl interior, this first-generation Chevelle is now offered with a clear Texas title in the seller’s name.

The midsize Chevelle first debuted on the General Motors A-body in 1964, using body-on-frame construction and slotting between the smaller Chevy II and larger full-size offerings. This Chevelle Malibu two-door hardtop is finished in a special made to order two-tone silver and blue paint and was restored in 2012 and placed a climate-controlled building with routine maintenance until 2021. The exterior offers quad headlights, good panel fitment, quality brightwork, and Malibu badging. The seller notes that all the glass is scratch free but the paint on the hood and trunk lid does have a few fish eyes.

Power steering is equipped to handle a set of 15” Weld Racing polished aluminum wheels that are wrapped in a staggered setup on new Cooper Cobra radial tires measuring 255/60 on the front and 275/60 on the rear. The new tires were installed in September 2021.

The interior is fitted with Black front bucket seats and a matching rear bench, with the lap belts, door panels, dash, carpeting, and "Chevelle" floor mats finished in the same hue. The cabin area has been totally insulated, floor, roof, door panels and kick panels to keep out heat/cold. The dash is trimmed with an aluminum bezel and Malibu badging, while other amenities include a vintage-look aftermarket radio and an electric antenna, new headliner and upholstery, and aftermarket air conditioning with twin 10" cooling fans and an enlarged four core aluminum radiator. According to the seller, the horn does not function from the steering wheel but there is a button under the dash that works the horn.

Behind the aftermarket steering wheel sits gauges, including a 120-mph speedometer, as well as an 8k-rpm tachometer and readouts for fuel, engine temperature, and voltage. According to the seller, the idiot dash gauges are not connected. The 120-mph speedometer was serviced during the restoration at which time the 5-digit odometer was reset to zero. The current reading is reported to be 1400, representing the total miles driven since completion of the restoration.

In place of the original engine is a rebuilt 1972 Chevrolet 402cid V8 crate engine which routes its power to the road through a Muncie Rock Crusher" 4-speed manual transmission and a positraction 12-bolt 3.36 rear end. Additional features include power brakes and power steering.

@Alanmay – I should have said that the factory idiot lights have been disconnected. It is possible that a couple of the sensors such as oil and water temp have been used on the under dash gauges. You could, if you wanted, to have both the dash lights and the under dash gauges working. Very simple to do. I have done it on another car I use to own. Thanks ...
