This 1987 Jaguar XJ6 is a garage-kept four-door sedan that has been driven 52,865 miles since new and derives power from a 4.2-liter inline-6 mated to a rebuilt BorgWarner 3-speed automatic transmission. This XJ6 rolled off the floor in Coventry, England with the last of its ilk in the early part of 1987, and was issued to Tom Wood Jaguar in Indianapolis, Indiana once arriving stateside. Subsequent ownership emphasized originality and preservation, with the car retaining its original Moorland Green paint finish over a Biscuit interior. Accompanied by documentation, including the transmission rebuild, and a window sticker, this XJ6 is now offered with a clean CARFAX report and a clear California title in the seller’s name.
The Series III XJ was produced in Coventry, England from 1979 to 1992, but the XJ6 was only built through early 1987, making this example one of the last of its kind. This XJ6 is presented as an original low-mileage, garage-kept car with its original coat of Moorland Green paint. Accenting exterior features include quad round headlamps in chrome housings and brightwork for the bumpers, grille, sideview mirror caps, and window surrounds. Fit and finish are described as being good throughout, showing deep gloss and few imperfections.
15" alloy wheels with Jaguar-logo center caps are wrapped in 215/70-series PrimeWell PS850 tires with good tread remaining. Driving assistance is provided by a power rack and pinion steering system, and the braking system features power-assisted 4-wheel discs.
The interior is trimmed in its original Biscuit leather with color-matching door panels, center armrest, headliner, and deep pile carpeting. The dash and leather-wrapped steering wheel offer contrasting dark finishes with gloss walnut trim that extends to the console and door cards. Amenities include power front buckets, automatic climate control, cruise control, power windows, locks, and sunroof, tinted windows, a trip computer, a vanity mirror, a map light, and a carpeted trunk with cargo lamp. The audio system is a factory 80-watt AM/FM/cassette head unit with four speakers and a power antenna.
Instrumentation consists of a 140-mph speedometer, a 5,500-rpm tachometer, and gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and voltage. The six-digit mechanical odometer reads 52,865 miles, which the seller asserts is true mileage.
The fuel-injected 4.2-liter inline-6 was factory rated at 176 horsepower and 219 lb-ft of torque when new. The original BorgWarner 3-speed automatic transmission was rebuilt under prior ownership with a service invoice dated 2002.
The CARFAX report shows no history of accidents or damage and Indiana registration from new through 2018 when the California seller acquired the car. The sale includes service documentation and a window sticker showing an original MSRP of $36,715 including transportation.
