No Reserve: 1990 Acura Legend LS 5-Speed

This 1990 Acura Legend LS two-door is an unmodified, well-maintained flagship Japanese coupe powered by a 2.7-liter V6 mated to a 5-speed manual transaxle. This Legend was sold new on March 18, 1990 from Scottsdale Acura in Scottsdale, Arizona and resided long-term in the Flagstaff area before being relocated to Phoenix in 2020. This coupe covered primarily highway destinations under its original owner who was a CPA servicing all of northern Arizona, and service records are comprehensive, covering three timing belt changes and including over $12,000 in receipts, with items such as a recent A/C overhaul and a clutch replacement in the last 30,000 miles. Finished in Sirius White Pearl over a reupholstered Ivory leather interior, this first-generation Legend is now offered with service records, a window sticker, two keys with an original dealer tag, promotional materials, two brochures, an owner’s manual, factory service manuals, an extra set of OEM floor mats, and a clean CARFAX report with a clear Arizona title in the seller’s name.

The Legend model first debuted in 1986 as a four-door sedan from Honda’s newly-created luxury division, with a two-door coupe variant launching the following year in 1987. Aesthetic changes were carried out for model year 1990 adding a slightly revised grille and unique red and clear taillights for the year. This Sirius White Pearl (NH-515P) coupe from the last year of the first generation is outfitted in top LS trim, with body lines incorporating flared out fenders, black bodyside moldings, frameless glass, and an integrated rear trunk lip spoiler. This coupe has resided in Arizona its entire life and displays a rust-free body, although the upper panels demonstrate failing clear coat and the chrome banding within the bodyside moldings is flaking off in some areas.
 

 Machined aluminum 15” directional wheels were professionally refinished in 2021 and are free of any rash or damage, wrapped in new Kumho Solus 205/60-series tires with only 200 miles added since. Braking is handled by four-wheel discs, and the seller notes that the anti-lock braking system is not currently functional due to a modulator failure, and replacement parts are discontinued. Braking function is normal aside from anti-lock capability. Suspension underpinnings consist of a four-wheel independent double wishbone setup with coil springs and stabilizer bars, and steering is power-assisted. 

The interior is fitted with reupholstered power-operated Ivory leather bucket seats with matching door panels, dash, center console, carpeting, and factory floor mats. An electronic driver information center came standard on LS models with digital readouts at the top of the dash for fluid levels, fuel economy, range, and other functions. Additional amenities include memory seats, burled walnut trim, a power-operated moonroof with sliding shade, automatic climate control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, power windows, power mirrors, power door locks, and cruise control. The windows have been professionally tinted. The seller notes that the Bose radio powers up but volume is faint, the rear driver side window does not function, and there is some clear coat cracking on the wood center console.

Instrumentation is provided by a 140-mph speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, and accompanying analog gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature. The six-digit mechanical odometer reads 256k miles, which reflects a true original reading per the seller. The seller notes that the bulb in the cluster for the left turn signal is burned out, and the driver information center occasionally displays errors for oil level even when the level is confirmed good. 

The 2.7-liter SOHC 24-valve V6 was rated at 160 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque when new and has been well-maintained throughout its life, accompanied by over $12,000 in documented service records. The timing belt and water pump have been changed three times, with the most recent service carried out in October 2021 by a Honda/Acura independent mechanic. The air conditioning system was overhauled in May 2021 with a new Denso compressor installed and a recharge, and additional recent work includes replacement of the clutch within the last 30,000 miles, axle work, emissions system work, and brake replacement. The seller notes that there is an oil leak consistent with age and mileage. Power is directed to the front wheels via a console-shifted 5-speed manual transaxle.

The CARFAX report shows no mention of accidents or damage on record. The car failed an Arizona emissions inspection in January 2021, but later passed with a replacement catalytic converter and oxygen sensor. There is an open manufacturer recall on the seat belt latch but parts are no longer available. The sale includes a binder of service records, an extra set of OEM floor mats, a framed advertisement, two keys, two brochures, an owner’s manual, a factory service manual and electrical troubleshooting manual, and the April 1987 Motor Trend magazine announcing the Legend coupe as Import Car of the Year. The original window sticker is included and shows an MSRP of $30,690.
