Vehicle Story

This 1954 Oldsmobile Starfire 98 convertible is powered by a 324ci V8 mated to a Hydramatic transmission. According to the seller, this Oldsmobile has covered 50,374 miles logged since new. Features include a Wonderbar radio, power steering and brakes, power windows, a trunk light, a clock, and a padded dash. Upgrades include new upholstery, a parade boot, carpet, a re-furbished front suspension, new brakes, an overhauled hydraulics system, new radial tires, and new rubber seals and weatherstripping. Refinished in the original Royal Marine and Capri Blue two-tone and featuring a replacement black convertible top over a two-tone blue leather interior, this Starfire 98 is available now from a dealer and comes with a clear Florida title.

The Oldsmobile Starfire is an automobile nameplate used by Oldsmobile and was produced in three non-contiguous generations beginning in 1954. The Starfire nameplate made its debut with the 1954-1956 Ninety-Eight series convertibles. The body of this particular 98 Starfire is refinished in original Royal Marine and Capri Blue two-tone and comes equipped with a newer black convertible top. Front and rear chrome bumpers along with "Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight" emblems, taillights, and reverse lights are in place.

The wheels are refinished in black, wear original Oldsmobile full hubcaps, and come wrapped in wide-whitewall radial tires. The seller states the tires have less than 100 miles on them.

The interior has been reupholstered with two-tone light blue and dark blue leather, a color scheme that extends to the door panels. Blue carpeting and matching floor mats cover the floor. A fully upholstered trunk with a trunk light is lined with two-tone light blue and dark blue carpet and includes a spare tire cover and jack.

The refinished dashboard, steering column, and steering wheel with a chrome horn ring have been refinished in Capri Blue. All factory gauges including those showing the amps, temperature, fuel level, and oil pressure along with a 120-mph speedometer and a five-digit odometer that reads 50,374 miles are housed in chrome trim. In the center of the dash is a Wonderbar radio. An accessory clock can be found to the right. A new dark blue convertible top boot has been added.

Inspired by the Space Race, Oldsmobile started using related terminology and eventually released the "Rocket" V8 engine. The 324ci Rocket V8 in this car is mated with a HydraMatic automatic transmission. A generator, cast-iron exhaust manifolds, power steering hardware, and a batwing-style air cleaner are in place. A mechanical fan cools the radiator.

The wheel wells, frame, floorboards, and rear suspension are covered in undercoating. A full single exhaust system exits under the rear bumper.

Thank you to all who have commented and Bid. I have owned this great car twice. The first time was quite a few years back. I traded a Lincoln Zephyr Coupe to get this car. Legitimate low mile car that was built in California and lived its life in the SW USA. I sold it to a WI man who then rebuilt the suspension, brakes and hydraulics. He also reupholstered the seats and installed new carpet and upholstered the trunk. He retired and took the car to Florida with him. Unfortunately, he succumbed to cancer. His widow reached out to me and I was more than happy to purchase the car from her. And for substantially more than he bought it for. It is a special car that is a dream to drive. The colors are stunning and draw crowds. 1954 was the first year of the Oldsmobile Starfire. Can you imagine the prestige that the original owner must have felt as he drove this car?! Good luck over the next three days. I will do my best to remain engaged and to answer your questions.

@Donaldlett. All features, including the Wonderbar radio and locks work properly. The electrical system has always been 12 volts. The engine starts and runs great. Without the usual lifter rattle of the early Rocket V8. I am not sure if it was rebuilt. It has no blow by or exhaust smoke. This car has never been rusty, after spending life in the dry SW USA. I see no signs of body repair.
