This 1978 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ43 is finished in Toyota Olive Green over a black vinyl interior. Imported from Columbia by Vintage Cruisers of Flagstaff, AZ, the FJ was reportedly used as a Columbian army troop carrier prior to import. Upon importation to the US, a mechanical overhaul was performed by Vintage Cruisers, including the addition of A/C. Since then, additional work has been performed by RMS Auto Care in Houston, TX where it underwent further mechanical restoration shortly after the seller acquired the truck.. Per the seller, paint, body panels and the engine are original on the medium wheelbase FJ. Power comes from a 4.2L 6-cylinder engine, which sends power to all four wheels through a 4-speed manual transmission and a 2-speed transfer case. Now offered with records dating from the seller’s acquisition in 2013, this FJ carries a clear Texas title in the seller's name.
Finished in Toyota Olive Green with a white hardtop, the truck retains all of its original sheet metal and paint, per the seller. Aftermarket bumpers were installed shortly after the seller acquired it in 2013, along with a 10,000lb electric equipped with a steel braided cable. The glass is believed to be original as well, with light hazing visible on the rear corner windows. The FJ43 construction is near identical to the FJ40 but features an extra 5" in the wheelbase and an extra 18" of overall body length. Additional exterior features include a brush guard for the front grille and headlights, tow hitch ball fixed to the rear bumper, side-hinged rear door, and sliding rear side windows.
16” aftermarket polished alloy wheels are wrapped in Toyo A/T Open Country tires on all four corners. Tires are said to have been installed 7 years ago with 1,800 miles on them along with a full-size matching spare affixed to the rear door. Braking is handled by power-assisted drums with a dual reservoir master cylinder. The seller notes the truck pulls to the right under hard braking
The interior features bucket seats upholstered in black vinyl with matching side-mounted folding rear seats. The floor is covered with black rubberized mats, with shifters for the 4-speed manual transmission and transfer case mounted to the transmission tunnel. The dash is painted to match the exterior, with an aftermarket air conditioning unit mounted underneath. The an aftermarket radio was installed but has been disconnected by the seller due to a short in the wiring causing the fuse to blow. Speakers for the radio have been mounted in the doors and headliner trim panel.
The truck retains its original 3-spoke factory steering wheel, which sits in front of the gauge cluster consisting of a centrally mounted 160kmh speedometer, as well as gauges for fuel, oil pressure, temperature, and amperage. The odometer currently shows just over 23K KM, though true mileage is unknown the seller has added 3k kilometers in 7 years of ownership
The truck retains the original 4.2L inline 6-cylinder engine equipped with all of the factory components. Mated to a 4-speed manual transmission, power is sent to all four wheels through a 2-speed transfer case. A new aluminum oversized radiator was installed for improved cooling, as was aftermarket power steering for driveability.
The truck retains its factory-style suspension with solid axles front and rear. Undercarriage photos show the FJ to the presence of surface rust on the exhaust, various suspension components, and frame, though no corrosion is noted.
The truck comes with all service records during the sellers 7 years of ownership, with all work performed by Vintage Cruisers of Flagstaff, Arizona and RMS Auto Care of Houston, Texas. Located in Houston, Texas this 1978 FJ43 is now offered on a clear Texas title in the sellers name
