Vehicle Story

This rust-free 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 SportsRoof was built in Ford's Metuchen, New Jersey factory and was first sold on October 25, 1968. It was restored five years ago and features an R-code 428ci Cobra Jet V8 engine with Ram Air connected to a 4-speed manual gearbox, front and rear spoilers, hood pins, a shaker hood scoop, tinted glass, power brakes with front discs, Magnum 500 wheels with new Goodyear tires, and rear window louvers. Inside, it comes equipped with room for four, woodgrain trim, a Hurst shifter, and an AM radio with an 8-track tape player. Finished in Candyapple Red with black accents over a black vinyl interior with hi-back bucket seats, this inaugural-year Mach 1 is available now and comes with an uninstalled Rim Blow steering wheel that was restored for a reported cost of $1,500, a Ford Stereo for Today 8-track tape, restoration documentation, an Elite Marti Report, and a clear title.

The 1969 model year marked the introduction of the redesigned Ford Mustang, which featured a restyled grille and headlights and longer and wider bodywork, and the high-performance Mach 1 SportsRoof model. This particular Mach 1 underwent a seven-year restoration that was completed approximately five years ago. It was refinished in its correct Candyapple Red with a body-color and black hood and body side and rear deck tape stripes. Front-end features include black front and rear spoilers, a chrome bumper, amber fog lights, hood pins, and a shaker hood scoop. On the sides, there are body-color racing mirrors, rocker panel moldings, Mustang B-pillar badges, and scoops on the rear quarter panels. At the rear, the car is equipped with black louvers, Mustang lettering, tri-bar taillights, reverse lights mounted below the chrome bumper, and quad round exhaust finishers.

The car rolls on 15-inch Magnum 500 wheels fitted with reportedly new Goodyear Polyglas GT raised-white-letter tires.

Inside, this Mach 1 is furnished with tinted glass, black Clarion knit and vinyl hi-back bucket front seats with red accent stripes, a pair of all-black rear seats, a black headliner, and black carpeting with Mustang-branded floormats. Woodgrain accents are located on the black door panels, aftermarket 3-spoke steering wheel, dashboard, center stack, and center console. Equipment includes a remote driver-side mirror, manual window cranks, manual steering, bright pedal caps, an AM radio with an 8-track tape player, and a Hurst T-handle shifter. The carpeted trunk contains a spare wheel wrapped in a Firestone Wide Oval tire.

Instrumentation comes in the form of a 140-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and gauges for the fuel level and coolant temperature. The odometer indicates 62K miles, but true mileage is unknown. An electric clock is located on the passenger's side of the dashboard. Aftermarket Stewart Warner gauges below the HVAC controls show readouts for the oil pressure and coolant temperature.

Power comes from an R-code 428ci Cobra Jet V8 equipped with Ram Air, finned valve covers, and a blue Autolite closed-element air cleaner with a snorkel-style intake. A close-ratio 4-speed manual gearbox and a Traction-Lok differential with 3.25 gearing deliver the engine's power to the road.

From the factory, this car was configured with the Handling Suspension and power brakes with front discs. Additional photos showing the state of the underbody are in the picture gallery to the right.

An uninstalled Rim Blow steering wheel that was restored for a reported cost of $1,500, a Ford Stereo for Today 8-track tape, restoration documentation, and an Elite Marti Report are included with the purchase of the vehicle.

AUTOHUNTER ADMIN UPDATE: The listing was updated to reflect the car has 15-Inch wheels.
