Vehicle Story

This 1962 Chevrolet Corvette convertible has been driven 1,600 miles since receiving a documented body-off restoration in 2015 by a Corvette specialist in Florida, powered by a period-correct 327ci Turbo-Fire V8 paired with a rebuilt, period-correct 4-speed manual transmission. The seller has owned the vehicle for seven years and has included documentation encompassing the depth of this build, including overhauls to the braking system, chassis, engine, and interior. Finished in Sateen Silver with a black cloth retractable top over a red vinyl interior, this final-year C1 Corvette is now offered with build photographs, restoration documentation, and a clear Florida title in the seller’s name.

Following its initial introduction for the 1953 model year, the Corvette saw year-over-year changes that brought revised design language and equipment. A new body was rolled out in 1956, a revised four-headlight nose in 1958, and dual taillights with a duck-tail rear end in 1961. The Corvette from the last year of the first generation received a body-off restoration in 2015 by a Corvette specialist in Florida, including $25,000 spent on enhancements to the fiberglass body and chassis such as rubber, bushings, springs, and more. The repainted Sateen Silver body is accompanied by a black cloth retractable top, a driver-side mirror, and a dual exhaust system out back. The seller has provided photos documenting the restoration process in the carousel.

Steel 15-inch wheels with bright covers and faux spinners are wrapped in 215/70-series Ironman whitewall tires with good tread life remaining. The front and rear stabilizers, brackets, exhaust hangers, and other chassis elements were overhauled or replaced at the time of restoration. Braking comes from a refurbished system with replacement drums, hydraulic cylinders, shoes, hoses, and lines.

The two-seat interior has a dual-coved dashboard design and is fitted with reupholstered red vinyl bucket seats and matching lap belts, door panels, carpeting, and rubber floor mats. Amenities include an analog clock, a push-button radio, and a red vinyl trunk mat.

Instrumentation consists of a 160-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and voltage. The 5-digit mechanical odometer reads 1,500 miles, although true mileage on the chassis is unknown.

The period-correct small-block 327ci Turbo-Fire V8 was subject to extensive mechanical service in 2015 as illustrated in the receipts in the carousel. Among the components replaced were the oil filter canister, radiator hoses, water pump, exhaust manifold gaskets, thermostat and gasket, spark plugs, wires, distributor cap, fan belt, battery, and more. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a rebuilt period-correct 4-speed manual transmission.

The sale includes photographs from throughout the restoration process as well as build receipts.
