This 1984 Volkswagen Rabbit GL Custom is a four-door hatchback powered by a 1.7-liter inline-4 paired with a 3-speed automatic transaxle. It was sold to its first owner in Mineola, New York in August 1985 and later relocated to Nevada in 1999 where it has remained since then. The body was treated to a respray in 2015 and a new stereo was installed in June of 2021. Finished in metallic light blue over a dark blue interior, this Rabbit is now offered with a CARFAX report, service records, and a title in the seller’s name.
The Rabbit model came to market as a North American variant of the Mark I Golf and was offered as a Class C small family car on the Volkswagen Group A1 platform beginning in 1975. This Rabbit four-door hatchback from 1984 was repainted its current metallic light blue under prior ownership around 2015. The body features black bumper guards and side mirrors.
Steel wheels with full covers are wrapped in tires with black sidewall lettering.
The interior is outfitted with aftermarket gray fabric front bucket seat covers, blue vinyl door panels, and a matching headliner, dash, and carpeting. The aftermarket audio head unit was installed in June 2021. Additional features include a heater and a steering wheel wrap.
Instrumentation consists of an 85-mph speedometer, an analog clock, and a fuel gauge. The six-digit mechanical odometer tracks mileage; the most recent odometer reading on the CARFAX was 113,690 miles in 2021. The seller has added approximately 300 miles during their one year of ownership.
The fuel-injected 1.7-liter inline-4 sends power to the front wheels via a floor-shifted 3-speed automatic transaxle. The CARFAX report contains more than 30 service records. Highlights include a service in June of 2020, an alignment and cooling system check-up in August of 2013, replacement of the valve cover gaskets in January of 2013, and a CV boot replacement in June of 2006. The seller notes that there is some surface rust present underneath the car.
The CARFAX report shows that this is a total loss vehicle following a damage report dated July of 1996. A subsequent record shows another damage report from January 2005 related to functional damage to the front right. The vehicle failed a Nevada emissions inspection in May of 2021. The sale includes service records.
