Vehicle Story

This one-owner 1983 Mazda RX-7 GSL is an unmodified Japanese sports coupe that has covered 27,861 miles since new and receives power from a carbureted 1.1-liter Wankel 12A rotary motor paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes a removable glass roof as well as a body-color metal roof panel, power windows, four-wheel disc brakes, and a power antenna. Finished in black with red pinstriping over a charcoal cloth interior with red stripes, this Series 2 (FB) RX-7 is now offered with both tops, a car cover, service records, a clean CARFAX report, a window sticker, and a clear Ohio title in the seller’s name.

The RX-7 sports car initially went into production in 1978 in Japan utilizing the Mazda F platform. The subsequent Series 2, also known as the FB, came out in 1981 with black plastic bumpers, rubber bodyside moldings, and an increased overall length. This black 1983 RX-7 GSL with red pinstripes has been garage-kept long-term and stored during winters. Features include a removable glass roof panel, pop-up headlamps, mud flaps, ribbed wraparound taillights, and dual polished exhaust finishers.

Alloy 13-inch four-spoke wheels with black pockets have been refinished and are wrapped in tires with black sidewall lettering. Stopping power comes from disc brakes both front and rear.

The two-seat interior is fitted with charcoal cloth bucket seating with red stripes, matched to the door panels, console, dashboard, carpeting, and floor mats. The cabin has not been smoked in and features tinted and power-operated windows, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a power antenna. The seller notes that there are some cosmetic blemishes on the dashboard and the air conditioning does not blow cold because it may need to be recharged.

Instrumentation includes a 130-mph speedometer, an 8K-rpm tachometer, and gauges for the coolant temperature, fuel level, and oil pressure. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 27,861 miles.

The carbureted 1.1-liter Wankel rotary engine was rated at 100 horsepower and 107 lb-ft of torque when new. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a console-shifted 5-speed manual transmission.

The CARFAX report shows no accidents or damage on record, with an initial entry in 1983 and one other dealership service record dated 2007. The sale includes service records, a car cover with a storage bag, a window sticker, a color-matched roof panel, a glass roof panel, and a protective storage sleeve.

@AkaReaper – Hi Carol, what happened to the body molding on front bumper to turn it grey? Is there normal compression in the engine? Have you verified the AC just needs recharge and there is not a bad compressor or line leaks? Door seals, sunroof seals, hatch seals do not leak? Thank you. ...

The body molding is not gray. I don't know why it looks like that in the pictures. It is black. There is normal compression in the engine. Until this sale, the car was driven annually and I've not had any problems. The a/c stopped blowing cold air when the car was 13. I was told it needed to be recharged, but that was when the a/c changed to the newer type and I never got it done. There are no leaks that I am aware of in any of the door/roof/hatch. It's not usually driven in the rain, and I've not observed any leak when washing it.
