1967 Ford Fairlane 500 XL

This 1967 Ford Fairlane 500 XL two-door hardtop has been upgraded with a 302ci V8 bored out to 331ci and modifications including a Holley four-barrel carburetor, a COMP Cams Thumpr camshaft, MSD ignition components, Scat pistons, headers, and aluminum valve covers. Power goes to the rear end through a console-shifted Cruise-O-Matic 3-speed automatic. Offering bucket seats, auxiliary gauges, and solid brightwork, this fifth-generation metallic blue Fairlane is now offered by the selling dealer with a clear Pennsylvania title.

First arriving on the market in the mid-1950s, the Fairlane was initially positioned as the full-size flagship of the Ford model lineup. Subsequent redesigns brought evolved styling, different equipment, and a smaller midsize classification. In 1966, the model’s appearance was changed to match that of the larger Ford sedans and the car was given stacked quad headlights. This Fairlane 500 XL from the following year has a two-door hardtop body style (63B) that was originally Dark Moss Green but was subsequently painted metallic blue. Features include brightwork, bodyside trim, and a reportedly Flowmaster-style dual exhaust system.

Color-matched steel 15-inch wheels with factory dog-dish hubcaps are wrapped in staggered-sized BFGoodrich Silvertown tires up front and brand new Cooper rubber in the rear. Stopping power comes from drum brakes all the way around.  

The interior is set up with reupholstered black vinyl low-back bucket seats, matched to the door panels, padded dash, center console, carpeting, and rear bench seat. Features include a woodgrain steering wheel, courtesy lighting, a push-button radio, and a plaid vinyl mat in the trunk.

Instrumentation includes a horizontal-sweep 120-mph speedometer, an analog clock, and a fuel gauge along with three supplementary Bosch gauges showing the coolant temperature, oil pressure, and voltage. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 70K miles, although true mileage on the chassis is unknown.

The 302ci V8 has been bored .030 over and stroked to 331ci. Performance equipment includes a Holley four-barrel carburetor, aluminum valve covers, a COMP Cams Thumpr camshaft, Scat pistons, an MSD ignition system, and headers. The motor was reportedly balanced by Summit Racing. Power is fed to the rear wheels via a Cruise-O-Matic 3-speed automatic transmission.
