This 1968 Chevrolet Chevelle two-door hardtop received an inside-and-out restoration and is powered by a reportedly numbers-matching L34 396ci V8 coupled with a Hurst-shifted 4-speed manual transmission. It was purchased new in March of its model year from Parks Chevrolet in Corydon, Indiana, and comes equipped with Rallye wheels, a dual exhaust system, and full gauges. Finished in Matador Red with a black vinyl top over a black vinyl interior, this second-generation Chevelle is now offered by the selling dealer with a copy of the original dealer order sheet and a clear title.
The Chevelle occupied the midsize segment in the Chevrolet lineup beginning in 1964. An available Super Sport trim level added special exterior brightwork and different wheels. In 1968, a second-generation model debuted with a streamlined fastback appearance. This Chevelle two-door hardtop from that year was restored and refinished in red with a black vinyl top and black striping. According to the dealer, it is in virtually as-new condition. Features include 396 and SS badging, quad headlamps, and a dual exhaust system.
Steel 15-inch Rallye wheels with Chevrolet-branded chrome center caps and trim rings are wrapped in BFGoodrich Silvertown redline tires.
The interior is fitted with a reupholstered black vinyl split bench up front and a bench in the rear, matched to the door panels, dash, and carpeting. Amenities include a Hurst shifter, a radio, and SS 396 badging. The trunk is finished in correct speckle paint and lined with a vinyl mat.
Instrumentation consists of a 120-mph speedometer, a barrel-style tachometer, an analog clock, and gauges for the fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and voltage. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 50K miles, although true mileage on the chassis is unknown.
The reportedly numbers-matching L34 396ci V8 is fed by a four-barrel carburetor and installed in a matte-black engine compartment with chrome dress-up accents. Power is directed to the rear wheels via a floor-shifted 4-speed manual transmission.
