Vehicle Story

This 1965 AMC Rambler American 220 four-door sedan is reportedly a three-owner car that features chrome bumpers, full wheels covers, and whitewall tires. Inside, it comes equipped with bench seats, a transistor radio, and a handmade leather steering wheel grip. Under the hood is a straight-6 engine that delivers its power through a 3-speed manual gearbox with overdrive and the rear wheels. Finished in light blue with a white roof over a white vinyl and black cloth interior, this third-generation Rambler is available now and comes with an owner's manual, an accessories catalog, a Rambler Travel Club card, a travel log, and a clear title in the seller's name.

Introduced for the 1964 model year, the third and final generation of the Rambler offered new styling with a horizontal grille between a pair of tunneled headlights, six more inches of wheelbase, and a more spacious interior. This 1965 sedan model is reportedly one of 296 produced and has a two-tone paint scheme consisting of a light blue body and a white roof. Exterior features include chrome bumpers with guards, bright trim, a curved rear window, and reverse lights. The seller reports a scratch on the driver's door and various paint blemishes consistent with the car's age.

A set of wheels with full covers and whitewall tires connects the car to the road.

The cabin is furnished with white vinyl and black cloth bench seats as well as color-coordinated door panels, black rubber flooring, a black dashboard, and a ribbed white headliner. Equipment includes front vent windows, manual crank windows, a tan handmade leather steering wheel grip, a transistor radio, a front passenger-side headrest, and a glove box. The pictures in the gallery to the right show a rip in the front driver-side seat, fabric separation at the top of the rear seatback, and stains in the headliner.

Vehicle information is delivered through a 120-mph speedometer, gauges for the coolant temperature and fuel level, and warning lights for the oil pressure and alternator. The five-digit odometer shows 65K miles, which the seller states are an accurate figure.

Output from the inline-6 engine is sent through a column-shifted 3-speed manual gearbox with overdrive and the rear wheels. According to the seller, no service is due.

Various photos showing the condition of the underbody are available in the picture gallery.

An owner's manual, an accessories catalog, a Rambler Travel Club card, and a travel log are included with the sale of the vehicle.

@Rideklein – I’m not too familiar with this auction site but will you be posting a driving video showing the shifting the gauges the lights the horn the radio etc.? Tough to bid on a car let alone transportation of the car to my city without a video I guess no video no “bideo “ ...

I am NOT the seller but I can answer on his behalf . If there were to be a video, it would have already been provided so the answer is 99% no. Welcome to the world of auto auction bidding.

@StrattonS – If it is active, it's very slow. The water stains have been there since this owner acquired the car, and it hasn't noticeably spread over the years. That being said, there hasn't been much recent investigation on that particular matter and the rubber weather strip could have likely deteriorated in a few spots more recently. To my knowledge, most everything is original to the car, including the headliner and moulding. It's honestly hard to tell how recent the stain formed. I hope that answers your question! ...

Yes sir, very Clear & Concise, thank you.

@EFORD – Thank you for your timely reply. Last question: I see a water stain in the headliner near the windshield and what appears to be a missing piece of rubber molding on the drivers side exterior. Is that an active leak? ...

@oldgtoguy337 – What I meant to ask is, does it have the 195.6 cu.in. 6 as opposed to the 232 cu.in. 6 cylinder? ...

To my knowledge, the engine is original to the car, which AMC stated was the AMC Typhoon OHV Six 196. The cylinders should be the 195.6 cu in.
