This 1987 Porsche 928 S4 sports coupe has been upgraded with aluminum wheels, Recaro seats, and a Momo steering wheel. It draws power from a 5.0-liter V8 with a tune, headers, and an upgraded exhaust, and sends it to the road through a 4-speed automatic transaxle. This 928 was sold originally in Hinsdale, Illinois and subsequently relocated to Nevada in 2000 where it remained for 20 years. Equipment includes fog lamps, a power-operated sunroof, and four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes with cross-drilled rotors. Finished in Guards Red over a black interior, this 928S4 is now offered with a clean CARFAX report and a clear Nevada title.
Positioned as a luxury grand tourer, the 928 initially went into production in 1977 as the Porsche lineup’s top-of-the-line offering. The body was engineered with aluminum for the doors, front fenders, and hood for optimal weight savings, along with polyurethane bumpers in body-color plastic. This 928 S4 from 1987 is painted Guards Red and has reportedly been garage-kept. Body features include pop-up headlamps, fog lamps, body-color mirror caps and beltline moldings, and a rear spoiler with an LED third brake lamp. The seller notes that there is some paint fade consistent with age but the body is straight and free of dents. The driver-side door jam trim is also missing.
The mesh-style aluminum wheels have polished lips and low-profile tires. Braking is provided by four-wheel anti-lock discs with red calipers and cross-drilled rotors.
The 2+2 cockpit is outfitted with aftermarket Recaro black cloth bucket front seats, matched to the door panels, console, dash, and carpeting. Amenities include air conditioning, power windows, power door locks, cruise control, a power-operated sunroof, a Momo steering wheel, and an aftermarket shift knob.
Instrumentation includes a 180-mph speedometer, a 6,500-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges for the coolant temperature, fuel level, oil pressure, and voltage. The six-digit mechanical odometer reads 143K miles, which is a true reading supported by the CARFAX report.
The 5.0-liter DOHC V8 is equipped with LH-Jetronic fuel injection and was factory rated at 316 horsepower and 317 horsepower in stock form. This 928 S4 features upgraded headers and a performance tune. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a console-shifted 4-speed automatic transaxle. The seller states that the starter Bendix gear is weak but still functioning; a replacement unit is currently on backorder. A cold start video is provided for viewing below.
The undercarriage is shown in the video below.
The CARFAX report shows no history of accidents or damage on record. The seller indicates that the car has recently passed a California smog test although it is not shown on the report.

@TheZMan – what is not working on this car besides the starter?? 2nd person to ask ..... ...
The starter is working. Just sometimes spins without engaging the bendix. Able to be driven normally with no issue. I just went through all the controls I could think to check… sun roof, heater, windows, gauges, etc. and all worked well.

BID: $6,000
The a/c needs to be charged. The starter bendix is still on order. Beyond that I haven’t found anything else that doesn’t work. Car needs someone to start driving it. It has sat for a couple years now. Customer brought it in when he received it in a will. I repaired all that I could find.
