This 1962 Ford Thunderbird is reportedly a Sports Roadster model with $68,700 spent on cosmetic and mechanical replacements. It is powered by the original 390ci Ford V8, according to the seller. Features include an automatic transmission, a color-keyed fiberglass tonneau cover, power windows, power brakes, and a power convertible soft top. This Monte Carlo Red Thunderbird with a black vinyl interior is available now and comes with records, invoices, and a clear California title in the seller's name.
In 2005, $15,500 was reportedly spent on a cosmetic restoration by the previous owner. During the restoration, the exterior was refinished in the original color of Monte Carlo Red (color code J), as verified by the VIN tag. Features include a factory-installed color-keyed Sports Roadster fiberglass tonneau cover, a power white convertible soft top, quad headlights, chrome bumpers, full-length bodyside trim with integrated door handles, a driver-side mirror, a simulated hood scoop, chrome taillight rings, and reverse lights. According to the seller, the first Sports Roadster built had a VIN number of 2Y85Z105844, assembled on September 13, 1961. Between that VIN and VIN 2Y85Z114640, 558 Sports Roadsters were built using body style Code 76A. The first Sports Roadster built using body style 76B had the VIN of 2Y89Z127027. The VIN of this Thunderbird is 2Y85Z105946 and is believed to be a true Sports Roadster with body style 76A. Sports Roadsters had specific body and accessory trim characteristics such as the fiberglass tonneau cover; red, white, and blue fender emblems; and a dash-mounted passenger assist bar. This 1962 Thunderbird is believed to be one of 1,427 equipped with these original features.
A set of chrome Truespoke wire wheels with chrome 3-bar center caps are wrapped in whitewall radial tires. The seller notes that the wheels were purchased in June of 2017 and the tires have good tread remaining.
The bucket seats are upholstered in black vinyl and flanked by matching door panels. Features include black carpet with black floor mats, power windows, power brakes, an AM radio, a column-mounted automatic shifter, and a black vinyl dashboard with wraparound aluminum door and center console trim.
A 120-mph speedometer, a clock, and coolant temperature and fuel gauges are mounted in a black panel in front of the driver. The 5-digit odometer reads 25,121 miles, but the true mileage on the car is unknown. According to the seller, the water temperature gauge indicates the engine runs hotter than it does due to a sending unit with incompatible ohms output.
Power is provided by a 390ci V8 backed by an automatic transmission.
This Thunderbird was originally equipped with an independent front suspension and a solid rear drive axle. Stopping is handled by power brakes. The full-length dual exhaust system ends below the rear bumper.
Records and invoices are included as part of the sale of the vehicle.

Hi Alex, Unfortunately, I do not have time to shoot and upload a video today. I can tell you, however, that mechanically everything works well. The canvas top, I believe, is about 10 years old, but is in excellent condition as well as it rarely leaves the trunk. To activate the top, there is a lever on the driver side door. With the engine running and pushing the lever up., the trunk lid, which is hinged at the rear of the car, begins to open. When the trunk lid is in a vertical position , then the top, which is hinged at the front of the trunk, then opens and eventually moves forward to the windshield where there are two latches to latch it. As soon as it moves completely forward, the trunk lid then moves down to the closed position.
