This custom-built 1965 Shelby Cobra FIA roadster replica from Unique Motorcars has covered 10,999 miles since completion in 2002 and comes complete with an upgraded 302ci V8 crate engine backed by a heavy-duty Tremec 5-speed manual transmission. Performance equipment for the balanced and blueprinted engine includes aluminum GT40-P racing heads, enhanced cam, an Edelbrock intake with dual four-barrel carburetors, forged pistons, roller lifters, and more. Power is delivered to the rear through a set of GT40-style wheels on new Cooper Cobra tires. Finished in Ferrari Rosso Corsa red over a two-seat black leather interior, this Cobra is now offered with a tonneau cover, uninstalled extra parts, build documentation, and a clear Utah title in the seller’s name.
The original Cobra roadster dates back to the early 1960s when American race car driver and designer Carroll Shelby partnered with British-based AC Cars to engineer a Ford-powered sports car. This 1965 Cobra replica is built in the design of the original FIA (Federation International Automobile) 289 racecar and originated as a kit from Unique Motorcars in Gadsden, Alabama. This company specializes in Cobra replicas and first got its start with kit cars in Phoenix, Arizona in the 1970s. The car was finished in Ferrari-derived Rosso Corsa red in Illinois and subsequently relocated to southern Utah where it has been garage-kept. Body features include chrome brightwork, a hood scoop, a single rollbar, and side exhaust pipes. The seller has provided up-close images of specific areas with blemishes in the gallery to the right.
Edelbrock GT40-style 15-inch wheels with knock-off caps are wrapped in staggered Cooper Cobra Radial G/T tires sized 245/60 at the front and 295/50 at the rear. According to the seller, the tires were installed and balanced in the spring of 2022.
The cockpit is fitted with twin black leather bucket seats with four-point Simpson racing harnesses, complemented by matching door panels, carpeting, and Cobra-embroidered floor mats. Features include a Shelby-branded wood-rimmed steering wheel, a heater, a defroster, and a new horn with hidden button.
The Stewart-Warner-branded instrumentation includes a 160-mph speedometer, an 8K-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges for the coolant temperature, fuel level, oil temperature, oil pressure, and voltage. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 10,999 miles, which reflects the accrued mileage since the completion of the build.
The 302ci V8 was professionally balanced and blueprinted and rated at 360 horsepower. It features GT40-P heads, forged pistons, roller lifters, roller rockers, a Lunati camshaft, an Edelbrock dual-quad intake with a pair of 500-cfm four-barrel carburetors, dual cooled oil filters, a high-performance radiator with dual electric fans, and an aluminum fuel tank. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a floor-shifted Tremec heavy-duty TR3550 5-speed manual transmission with overdrive. The transmission has a McLeod Racing transmission scatter shield and driveshaft safety loop.
Photos showing the powder-coated underside are available in the carousel. Suspension architecture consists of a four-wheel independent setup with adjustable Carrera coilovers and 3-inch tubular framing. The front end uses a custom tubular setup while the rear has a narrowed Jaguar architecture with a 3.31:1 differential. Stopping power comes from Wilwood four-wheel disc brakes and it is reported that the handbrake needs adjustment. The seller further notes that a professional front-end alignment and suspension tune-up have been performed.
