Vehicle Story

This garage-kept 1970 Dodge Super Bee is one of 1,072 440-powered hardtops built and currently has a 496ci stroker V8 with a 440 block backed by a 727 TorqueFlite automatic transmission. Features include manual brakes, power steering, a factory tick-tock tachometer, a PST suspension kit, Cragar wheels, and a Gator Grain vinyl top. This Dark Burnt Orange Metallic Super Bee with an orange vinyl interior is available now and comes with the removed original intake and six-pack carburetors, a Galen’s Registry report, receipts, a broadcast sheet, and a clear New York title.

Originally built at the Lynch Road Assembly plant in Detroit, this car was repainted 15 years ago in the correct color of Dark Burnt Orange Metallic (FK5) as verified by the trim tag. Features include chrome bumpers, quad headlights, a 440 6-pack power bulge hood with a black insert, a white Super Bee tail stripe, and a black Gator Grain vinyl roof. The seller notes that the brake and backup lights are currently not working. Cracking paint can be seen around the driver's door panel, the front valance panel has some dents, chipping is visible near the hood pins, and areas on the edges of certain panels have been touched up. Additional photos and a video can be seen in the carousel to the right.

A set of 15-inch Cragar SS wheels is wrapped in BFGoodrich Comp T/A radial tires at the front and Mickey Thompson drag radials at the rear. The passenger side mirror was added to make the car appear symmetrical. The seller reports the brake lights and reverse lights are currently not working.

The front bucket seats and matching rear seat, trim, and door panels are upholstered with orange vinyl. Features include an orange steel dashboard with an orange top pad, a floor-mounted Cheetah automatic shifter, black carpeting, power steering, manual brakes, and manual windows. This was originally a console car, but the console has been removed and is not included. The seller notes that the headliner and carpeting need to be replaced.

A 150-mph speedometer, an 8K-rpm tick-tock tachometer, and gauges for the fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and generator are located in a simulated woodgrain panel ahead of the driver. An 8K-rpm VDO aftermarket tachometer is mounted to the dashboard. An additional set of three aftermarket gauges for the oil pressure, voltage, and water temperature are mounted under the dashboard. The drivers side window regulator does not work very well and the speedometer is not working.

Power is provided by a non-numbers-matching 496ci stroker V8 with a 440 block built by "Barbara Ann" Spiro and backed by a 727 TorqueFlite automatic transmission built by FB Performance Transmissions that is blanketed and rated for 750 horsepower. The seller states the engine produces 500 horsepower and 550 lb-ft of torque at the wheels between 4,500 and 6,000 rpm. Underhood features include a 570 UltraDyne camshaft with solid lifters and 906 ported and polished heads, an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake manifold, a Holley 850-cfm Double Pumper carburetor, and Hooker headers. Additional features include an MSD ignition, power steering, finned cast aluminum valve covers, a K&N air filter, and a battery with a quick disconnect.

This Super Bee came factory-equipped with an independent front suspension and a solid rear drive axle. Upgrades include a new fuel tank, full PST suspension kit with subframe connectors, an 8.75-inch rear axle with posi-traction and 3.91 gearing, a Borla dual exhaust system, and CALTRACS traction bars. Seller reports the power steering is high performance power steering from a 1980's police car. Braking power is provided by front discs and rear drums. Seller states the bottom has been undercoated to protect the car.

The seller will include the removed factory intake and 6-pack carburetors, the car is listed Galen’s Registry and may include a few pages, receipts, and a build sheet with the sale. The seller reports the car was sideswiped and was professionally repaired through insurance and features some putty in the wheel wells.
