This 1962 Ford Galaxie 500 two-door hardtop is a reportedly unrestored California car powered by a 406ci V8 paired with a BorgWarner 4-speed manual transmission. It comes equipped with an AM radio, a dual exhaust system, aluminum interior trim, and triple Holley carburetors. Finished in Viking Blue over a Blue Crush vinyl interior, this second-generation Galaxie is now offered with a clear title.
The full-sized Galaxie was brought to market as a top-line variant of the Fairlane 500. In 1962, a new generation rolled out and was offered in hardtop, sedan, and convertible body styles. This Viking Blue (color code E) Galaxie 500 two-door hardtop from 1962 reportedly has not been restored. Surrounding brightwork includes the front and rear bumpers and bumper guards, side mirror caps, 406 badging, and rear skirts (see photos). Features include quad headlights, an egg crate-style grille, full-length bodyside moldings, and a dual exhaust system. The seller notes that there are some pits in the paint.
Body-color steel 15-inch wheels with polished hubcaps are wrapped in whitewall tires.
The interior is fitted with front and rear benches upholstered in Blue Crush (trim code 32) vinyl with white accents, matched to the door panels, padded dash, and carpeting. Equipment includes an AM radio, a carpeted dash mat, manual-crank windows, and scripted badging on the glove compartment door.
Instrumentation is surrounded by an engine-turned aluminum bezel and includes a sweeping 120-mph speedometer, an analog clock, and gauges for the fuel level and coolant temperature. The five-digit mechanical odometer currently shows approximately 6,800 miles, although the true mileage on the chassis is unknown.
The 406ci V8 bears Thunderbird-branded valve covers and is fed by triple Holley two-barrel carburetors. This powerplant was rated at 405 horsepower per the seller. Power is fed to the rear wheels through a floor-shifted BorgWarner T-10 4-speed manual transmission and a non-locking rear axle with 4.11 gears.
Stopping power comes via drum brakes. Additional undercarriage photos can be found in the gallery.
AUTOHUNTER ADMIN UPDATE 7/14/22 4:58 PM: Photos of the rear skirts have been added to the carousel.
