Vehicle Story

This 1976 Mercedes-Benz 450SL convertible is finished in red over a saddle leather interior and is powered by a 4.5-liter V8 paired with a 3-speed automatic transmission.  Sold new in Arizona, the car was relocated to southern California and received a full restoration in 2015.  Since then, it has been displayed on the show circuit and been awarded top honors.  Equipment includes dual tops, fog lamps, and power convenience options.  Located in Chula Vista, California, this R107 450SL is now offered for sale on a clean California title in the seller’s name.

The car has been restored in its original red and was fully refinished in 2015.  The car is equipped with a dark brown folding soft top with plastic windows as well as a removable hardtop finished in red to match the body.  All brightwork is in good condition, free of any dings or pitting. Additional features include front fog lamps, wrap-around bumpers with black bumperettes, and chrome wheel arch trim.

Factory 14” steel wheels feature polished hubcaps with painted centers and Mercedes-Benz Emblems. Michelin Symmetry all-season tires measuring 205/70 are mounted on all four corners. Braking is provided by power-assisted discs all around, while the fully independent suspension utilizes double-wishbones in the front and a diagonal-pivot swing axle in the rear.

The interior is fitted with saddle leather bucket seats and tan carpeting.  The center console is features in high-gloss woodgrain trim which extends to surround the gated shift lever for the automatic transmission.  A factory-correct Becker Europa II AM/FM head unit fitted with a manually-adjustable, button-controlled power antenna.  Additional features include air conditioning, power steering, power front windows, and manual roll-down rear quarter windows.

Instrumentation includes a 160-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for coolant temperature, fuel level, and oil pressure.  Additionally, an analog clock resides in the cluster.  The six-digit odometer reads 160k miles, which are original to the car.

The car is powered by its original M117 4.5-liter V8 which was factory rated at 180 hp and 220 lb-ft of torque. It is equipped with Bosch fuel injection and an overhead camshaft design. The underhood was fully restored in 2015, which included refinishing or replating all components and reassembly with factory correct hardware.  Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 3-speed automatic transmission.

The sale includes both tops, the top stand, and a car cover.  The seller is also including documentation and records from the restoration, extra keys, and a variety of original manuals and pamphlets.

I'm interested to know: Are you selling this car - or merely fishing? Some of us are here to buy - others are fluffers who needlessly run the price up with no true intention to buy.
