Vehicle Story

OVERVIEW

This reportedly numbers-matching C-code 1970 Ford Torino GT was recently put through a $20,000+ frame-on restoration, according to the selling dealer. It is powered by a rebuilt 429ci Cobra Jet V8 with a new camshaft, new lifters, and a four-barrel carburetor. Features include an automatic transmission, power steering and brakes, factory air conditioning, and an AM radio. Refinished in Medium Blue over a blue vinyl and cloth interior, this Torino is available now and comes from the selling dealer with a clear California title.

EXTERIOR - FEATURES

This San Jose, California-built Torino was refinished less than 100 miles ago in the original color of Medium Blue, as verified by color code Q on the door data tag. Features include chrome bumpers, a black grille with quad headlights, a hood scoop, 429 engine call-out badges, GT emblems, wheel opening moldings, color-keyed sport mirror caps, and a black taillight assembly with integrated reverse lights. This car has been stored inside as a display at an automotive event venue since the restoration was completed, but the selling dealer notes chips on the hood from panel alignment issues.

EXTERIOR - WHEELS AND TIRES

A set of steel wheels with dog dish hub caps and trim rings is wrapped in Douglas radial tires.

INTERIOR - FEATURES

The front bucket seats and matching rear seat are upholstered with blue vinyl and blue cloth inserts. Features include blue interior trim, re-dyed door panels, a blue headliner, new blue carpeting throughout with blue rubber front floor mats, a matte black steel dashboard with a new blue vinyl top pad, factory air conditioning, and an AM radio. Additional features include a column-mounted automatic shifter, power steering and brakes, and manual windows. The selling dealer notes that the air conditioning is inoperable and the cardboard insert for the trunk is not present.

INTERIOR - GAUGES

A 120-mph speedometer and gauges for the fuel level and coolant temperature are mounted ahead of the driver. The odometer reads 34,842 miles but the true mileage on this vehicle is unknown.

ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION

Power is provided by a reportedly numbers-matching and rebuilt C-code 429ci Cobra Jet V8 with a four-barrel carburetor, a new cam, and new lifters. Power is delivered to the rear wheels through an automatic transmission. Underhood features include power steering, power brakes, air conditioning, and a windshield washer. The selling dealer states that the engine has fewer than 100 miles on the rebuild and still needs to be fine-tuned. In addition, the fan shroud is not present.

UNDERCARRIAGE

This Torino was factory-equipped with an independent front suspension and a limited-slip rear differential with 3.00:1 gearing, as verified by axle code 6 on the door data tag. Braking is provided by power drum brakes. A new fuel tank and an electric fuel pump have been installed. A full-length dual exhaust exits at the rear. The selling dealer notes that a front-end alignment will be needed. Additional photos of the undercarriage can be seen in the carousel to the right.
