OVERVIEW
This 1968 Dodge Charger two-door hardtop has been driven approximately 600 miles since the installation of a performance-upgraded 6.1-liter HEMI V8 paired with a rebuilt TorqueFlite A727 3-speed automatic transmission and a Gear Vendors overdrive system. It has been with the seller for 14 years and is outfitted with features including Vintage Air A/C, a Mopar steering wheel, a custom center console, an Alpine stereo, and Center Line wheels. Finished in black with blue striping over a tan leather interior, this second-generation Charger is now offered with a matching full-size spare wheel and tire, a fire extinguisher, and an Ontario, Canda vehicle permit in the seller’s name.
EXTERIOR – FEATURES
Sharing B-body underpinnings with other vehicles in the Chrysler family, this Charger two-door hardtop from 1968 has a reportedly straight, rust-free body that was repainted to its current gloss black. The exterior is equipped with hideaway headlamps, satin black accent panels, sail panel badging, blue rear striping, LED taillights, and a dual-outlet 3-inch Flowmaster exhaust setup.
EXTERIOR – WHEELS AND TIRES
Polished aluminum Center Line Mojave wheels are wrapped in 265-width front and 295-width rear BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires.
INTERIOR – FEATURES
The cockpit is fitted with late-model tan leather buckets up front and a bench in the rear, accompanied by a center console, door panels, padded dash, and carpeting in color-keyed materials. The cabin has been insulated with FatMat sound-deadening material and trimmed with carbon fiber accents. Additional features include power-adjustable seats, power front windows, cruise control, a Mopar-branded leather-wrapped steering wheel, Vintage Air A/C, and an Alpine AM/FM/CD stereo with dual Kenwood amplifiers in the carpeted trunk.
INTERIOR – GAUGES
Vehicle information is provided by a set of newer Dakota Digital gauges with a 160-mph speedometer, an 8K-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. The odometer reads 616 miles, which reflects the accrued mileage on the upgraded engine. The actual mileage on the chassis is unknown.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
The 6.1-liter HEMI V8 crate engine has been upgraded with a K&N intake, carbon fiber valve covers, TTI headers, a relocated battery, and new wiring. Cooling is provided by a Griffin aluminum radiator coupled with two electric fans. The fuel system uses an aluminum tank and lines. The engine bay firewall and inner fenders have been smoothed and refinished. Power is transferred to the rear wheels via a rebuilt TorqueFlite A727 3-speed automatic transmission with Gear Vendors overdrive and 3.90:1 gearing.
UNDERCARRIAGE
The subframe has been strengthened with welded-in connectors. Stopping power comes from four-wheel Master Power Brakes that were replaced within the last 700 miles; an alignment was performed around the same time. Additional photos showing the underside are available in the carousel.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS
The sale includes a spare tire with a matching Center Line wheel and a fire extinguisher.
