1991 MAZDA MIATA SPECIAL EDITION

OVERVIEW

This unrestored 1991 Mazda MX-5 Miata is #3,083 of 4,000 Special Edition models produced for the model year. It comes equipped with power steering, power anti-lock disc brakes, air conditioning, cruise control, and power windows. Newer parts include the clutch slave cylinder and front brakes. Power from the 1.6-liter inline-four engine is delivered to the road through a five-speed manual gearbox and a limited-slip rear differential. Finished in British Racing Green with a black soft top over a Tan leather interior, this first-generation Miata is available now and comes with a body-color hardtop, the original tonneau cover, a car cover, a Haynes repair manual, a CARFAX report, and a clear North Carolina title.

EXTERIOR - FEATURES

The British Racing Green exterior is equipped with pop-up headlights, body-color mirror caps, a folding black top with a plastic rear window, chrome door handles, a third brake light, and a single exhaust outlet on the passenger side. The soft top fits under the included tan vinyl tonneau cover and it and its frame are reported to be in good condition. As shown in the gallery to the right, a body-color hardtop with a glass rear window comes with the car.

EXTERIOR - WHEELS AND TIRES

The factory 14-inch wheels with Mazda-branded center caps are set inside Uniroyal Tiger Paw Touring tires.

INTERIOR - FEATURES

The cabin is furnished with a pair of Tan leather bucket seats, matching door panels and carpeting, a black and tan dashboard, and a black center console. Equipment includes power windows, power steering and brakes, cruise control, air conditioning, an aftermarket head unit, a wood handbrake grip, dual cup holders, and a lockable glove box.

INTERIOR - GAUGES

Vehicle information is displayed on an 8K-rpm tachometer, a 140-mph speedometer, and gauges for the fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. The six-digit analog odometer currently shows 74,725 miles, which is in line with the mileage shown on the CARFAX report. Per the seller, the vehicle is being driven so the total will rise before the close of auction.

ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION

The naturally aspirated and fuel-injected 1.6-liter inline-four was rated at 116 horsepower and 100 lb-ft when new. It is equipped with dual overhead camshafts and a stainless steel tubular header and transmits power to the road through a five-speed manual transmission with overdrive and a limited-slip differential. Service history includes the timing belt being replaced in 2018 and an oil change in June 2022. A video of the vehicle being driven is available below.

UNDERCARRIAGE

The fully-independent double-wishbone suspension consists of coil springs, shocks, and front and rear stabilizer bars. Stopping is handled by power anti-lock disc brakes. As the CARFAX report shows, a new clutch slave cylinder was installed in June 2021 and the front brake pads and rotors were swapped out for new units this June.
